Luis Portrait Test
Compared to the last portrait test, this one suffers from a few issues. The light and dark patterns are pretty boring which in turn led to a weak composition. I should have been a bit more adventurous with my shadow shapes, or picked an IRL reference with stronger shadows to it. I think it's a symptom of not knowing frog anatomy that well yet!
I should have also been more attentive to my values overall. The character has very desaturated light red skin, and the original grayscale rendering wasn't attentive enough to keeping it around the right value. As a result, the colors are a bit off from where they should be.
I also found it a bit difficult to strike the right highlight colors when painting in the color layers.... that's one that's gotta be down to study from life, I think. x-x
Anyhow! Just some notes for myself as I carry on lol. Digital painting is such a tough medium for me, so the occasional self-critique helps me figure out what to pay attention to for the next practice I do. :)

Honestly it's still something I'm getting a handle on, but I'm using Color, Color Gradient, and Overlay adjustment layers in Photoshop to work in color! Seems that if the render is solid enough and the grayscale matches what the color tone would be, it's not bad to do, but getting to a point where the colors don't come out 'muddy' has been tough x-x
