Realized I forgot to post this.
A doodle session I had with
sandow earlier in the year, of his character Schmuck and some random shmuck having an encounter.
Among the advantages of being artificial is that you can take plenty of physical punishment without losing vital function or primary operability, depending on your construction.
A downside of this same trait is that you can sometimes have a bit of an unnerving effect on organics that you operate with when you do end up taking damage that should be problematic for them. Whether ot not this really is an issue is down to your personal disposition obviously.
-
Not truly happy with how this ended up turning out, but I failed to fix it after and I can't afford to, nor want to, spend more time on trying, so here it is. Might bump it to scraps later.

It is a nice theme to play with - and one I am enjoying myself with a D&D character of mine, who just so happens to be a warforged. And a survivor of attrition-warfare to boot. Think the fantasy-equivalent of WW1 trench-warfare and you aren't far off. Out of his regiment of five--hundred of his kin, by the end less than two dozen remained. When units of organics broke and fled all around them it was he and his kin who stepped up to hold the line - stretched thin as they were - until reinforcements eventually arrived...
Yes. And it offers a lot of narrative possibilities. You see, the warforged I mentioned has become a bit of a leader to our party (despite having average charisma at best). And on a recent sailing voyage to an island he went overboard as part of an attack of undead pirates (and according to my private request to the DM). That way the party now had to face the difficult decision of picking a new leader - at least temporarily. Eventually the party's paladin stepped up to the job. A couple weeks later the warforged waded ashore at the island and rejoined the party - just in time for an undead invasion to take place.
Ah yes, major ss13 vibes with the janitor purples going on. Can't remember how many times I was visited in the janitor's closet while definitely doing my job by excited or big bellies Borg doggos back when I played YW. Some with quite a bit of damage, but they're all good boys, and got verbal confirmation of it.
I mean, just having a laser range finder in each of the eyes will do away with the issue of depth, but other ideas about how a synth can get around having only one eye have been proposed a little further down. Echolocation or radar are also perfectly viable solutions to the problem. I suppose that's what people find so interesting/cool about artificials, there's infinite possibilities.

For all the dissatisfaction you may feel about it, you brought to life a fun concept that had been in my mind for a while, and added wonderfully to the art I have of this character! Such a statement likely isn't going to douse those feelings of course, but you deserved the positive reminder!
Also I will say that I love the little details of the damage, or what it reveals. The broken muzzle revealing the 'root' of one of his fangs, the belly leaking like a self sealing fuel tank, the cracks into the soft looking outer shell, and that broken eye. It all helps tell a wonderful story, along with your description!

Have always admired your detailing with tech-related materials and figures / forms. You even got the deformation of where impacts have caused the synthetic's casing to warp a little here and there. Wonderful work as always. Personally, I don't see anything inherently wrong with the piece. It's very direct on the subjects and leaves room for quite a lot of backstory.
Great work.
Great work.
One of the unique things I found with this character in particular is that I'm used to most artificials being hard-shelled, whereas Schmuck is mostly covered in a soft material, hence all the strange texture along the damaged areas. I'm glad you're enjoying the attention to detail in any case ^^
I don't know how you do that.
I mean, looking at the feral mech alone, automatically puts it into the evil/lethal box of the FNAF kind in almost anybody's mind. Yet, you only have to add this other character and it becones a "friend" that has just came through quite a lot, because of this very subtle and mastered expression/body pose of antagonist mixed feelings. Chapeau bas.

It's all context in the end. You're right that the scene would likely be very different if the synth was standing by himself. I can't take credit for including the little guy though. This scene was largely thought up by the commissioner ;3
Still glad you like my work though, as always <3

I think, the more human said 'Construct' is, the more we will empathize with the damage they take. Whether it's the 'Sims' in the book/movie(s) "Blade Runner," and even the homicidal then turned-guardian 'Terminator' cyborgs, we see what they suffer/do/endure and some part of us winces in sympathy.
Being the avid critter lover I am, it really traumatizes me to see animals in distress, and I see animal/Anthro 'Constructs' in much the same way.
'Ouchies!'

Consider also that, to compensate for the loss of depth perception, the easiest workaround is to have the remaining eye oscillate rapidly a few millimeters in the horizontal plane. Difficult for a biological being, and simple for a partial to full cybernetic entity.
It could be even more offputting to a biological observer.
