Thus, the start of the Ten Years' War. Between 1868 and 1898 - during the Spanish-American War, Dominican General Máximo Gómez failed to overthrow Spanish power, killing hundreds of thousands of Cubans. After the Spanish evacuated the island and the Spanish–American War came to an end, and after three and a half years of U.S. military occupation, Cuba officially obtained independence in 1902. So, are y'all ready to meet our new member from Cuba? Because heeeerrrre he is! Introducing, Desiderio. There's just something about this Cuban moo-moo that makes everyone huff.
