Started with a concept and tried to give it a go.

Based on the depicted avian species seen in the Star Trek: The Animated Series, both the Aurelians (episode: Yesteryear) and the Skorr (episode: The Jihad). Understanding that there is a limited budget when it comes to early 70's animation for Saturday morning cartoons.
Add a healthy dose of actual avian anatomy, especially if the species is meant to be flying. Larger keel and breast muscles, and add a tail for better flight control.
Garnish with the coloration of one of my own characters, colors based originally on a Ferruginous Hawk.
