I used a lot of reference. I wanted the musculature to be very equid, but very cervine proportions. I've been drawing since I was twelve and always went out of my way to find real animals to ground my fantasy creatures in.

But basically, I had to take them apart before even beginning to put them back together, and I can't even say how much it helped studying skeletons and attending an Equine Science class.

I should go looking for some of the drawings I did before I understood how scapulae worked.
