It is a common thought that darkness is the balance to light. Without light, there is no shadow. And good is irrelevant without evil to balance it. However… good as we see it is fallible. Lucifer being the primary example of this. So… in order to keep balance… ‘evil’ must be fallible too.

And thus is why there are Guardian Daemons.

Such a creature starts out as a Personal Daemon that was allowed to metamorphose into a full Daemon (almost always by accident) but had stuck with one person for so long, that the influence of that person’s emotions was enough to modify its appearance and behavior to the point of it acing somewhat unlike other Daemons. Rather than be concerned with power or rank… it tends to have become attached to its human, and, in fact, rather territorial over it. And the human, unwittingly, does the Daemon a great service… it brings the Daemon its food. Personal Daemons, freshly spawned from full Daemons, will go after a seemingly unattended human… and the Guardian Daemon gladly eats them. Beyond that, Guardian Daemons are theorized to help their humans in other ways, through life, though they are so rare that this has been only poorly documented at best.

Because of their behavior, Guardian Daemons are often considered to be horrible parasitic scum by the rest of Daemon kind.
