Hey folks! =D Got a new PCA character for you! this time it's a faculty member. ^,^

Here we have a guidance counselour who's got a little history with everybody's favorite teddiursa Petie Liratten! =D How does she know him and how wil lthis affect him? Well she's a counselor... and he has enough issues for a special endition magazine subscription... ^,^ Not that hard to figure out huh?

Vastella Astrom led an interesting life. Born in Viridian to a Gothitelle mother and a Kadabra father she was raised from day one to be a scholar. She quickly gravitated towards one particular field of study, psychology. It seemed almost cliché for a psychic type to want to study what makes the mind work and forges peoples personalities and attitudes but it was what interested her and she immersed herself in her studies. After graduating high school, she went to college to get a degree in psychology (with a minor in teaching). During this time she most enjoyed working with children and teens, helping them with their troubles and worries.

Shortly after she went to work in a local school, working as both a teacher and a counselor to the students. All the while dreaming of one day working in the biggest place Viridian could offer, the PCA. This dream was sidetracked somewhat when she fell in love with and married a fellow teacher. Together they lived a relatively happy life together and raised a family of three kids. As her children grew, Vastella even found time to go back to school for a few more teaching degrees. Vastella soon found her children grew up and moved away and her husband’s life was cut short by illness.

Left alone in her formerly full home she found little comfort. Even managing to secure her long sought after dream job as a counselor at the PCA only slightly improved her mood. It was around this time she noticed an unusually large home being build three houses down from her’s on the tiny street she lived on. Not usually one to butt into other peoples business she found herself curious, and when the house was finished and her new “Neighbors” moved in she decided to go say hello. After a slightly hectic meeting with the Liratten family she enjoyed their company and after a while became good friends with Gwendolyn. She even found herself babysitting Gwen’s kids from time to time… most often her youngest, Petie. She found the young teddiursa charming even if she did wonder about his development. She eventually came to know the little one second only to his mother (having to do everything from pull him out of the cookie jar, bath him, and deal with his bedwetting when she babysat him helped this) and she looked at him as a nephew of sorts.

That’s not to say she didn’t notice a few budding troubles when she looked after the teddiursa. She saw numerous issues with his mental development and maturity… but there was only so much she could do without crossing a delicate line. So she steeled herself to just enjoy caring for the little guy and to keep a relatively hands-off approach to his development… at least until the time was right. When she found Petie among the numerous students of the PCA she decided now was the time to address some of her former charges issues and hopefully to help him resolve them.

Her personality has been described as light, fun loving, and cheerful even in the darkest of times. She’s good-natured and cheerful, acting with the spirit and energy of a woman half her age (leading people to think she’s younger then she is) and tends to enjoy life in all its forms. She is a charitable soul, always willing to help people and go out of her way for them… even if they don’t realize they need help, and normally acts with peoples best interests in heart. This is not to say she doesn’t have an unpleasant side though. She’s prone to teasing and jokes and tends to come off as rather smug and annoying at times if she isn’t focused on helping someone at the time… or even when helping someone. Past this though she’s a likeable, if occasionally frustrating, person to be around and a decent counselor for the students that come to her for help, whether by their own will or by being sent their by another teacher.

Beyond Counseling she also handles subbing for several basic classes like English and history should they need it, as well as occasionally teaching a special class on “Proper Usage of Psychic Abilities” for anyone interested in taking it (or ordered to take it thanks to having been caught misusing psychic powers). This is considered slightly ironic since Vastella is well know for abusing her powers constantly for incredibly mundane things like making coffee, cleaning, cooking, pulling Petie out of the cookie jar, etc, etc but as she describes it “Proper use of your powers isn’t talking about using them for housework. It refers to how you use them in regards to other people.” As such she teaches kids what not to do to other people’s heads, what’s considered taboo or acceptable, and most importantly the kind of punishments misuse of psychic powers can incur.
