The class system is not the standard DnD one however and you instead pick essentially proficency in a chosen class depending on points you get during character creation. Minimum of 1 and a maximum level of 3 - but each level costs more points. So for example Orion Bloodtooth is Protector lvl 2 and Blademaster lvl 2. So hes a good up close combat handsome lad. Meanwhile Thrail is healer 3 and cutthroat 1. Because he is a /completely/ innocent little mouse who only wants to help you ^.^
Hope you all enjoy this little excerpt from the exploits Thrail and Orion would talk about during the sessions as myself and Orions player decided they would have some history together. The mentioned a 'toad capture time' and so I decided to try and flesh that out a little.
"Right right you gits ow!"
"Shut mouth fat tail, you go into prison pit."
"Fat!? I'll have you know that we Tooths have the best and fluffiest ow!" Another jab of the thankfully mostly blunted trident in the backside made Orion just glare daggers at the two toads marching him along. Last time he trusted a damn rat about shortcuts. It had been going great. "Till you lot showed up," he grumbled to himself and luckily didn't get a prod for that one as the mentioned prison pit came into view. Down into the dirt and muck of the marsh. Greeeat. Glancing around at a potential escape route Bloodtooth hissed that there were only more toads. With pointier tridents rather than the catchers near him with the net and blunter tools. Double great. Though he did try to look at how the grate was staked to the ground before it was pulled upwards to allow him to enter.
"Down into the muck n water?"
"Yes," and with another jab at his floofy tail the fox would hop forward and into open space before down he fell. Thankfully not too far down before he sploshed into the mud at the bottom. Orion just managing to stop his face impacting the gloop as he tried to cushion his landing. Cant dirty the tooth! Before he looked up just in time to see the wood grate being lowered down before the stakes were driven back into the ground. Glaring at the toads who looked down at him down there before a rattle to Orions left made him snap his head in that direction. Oh...he wasn't alone. A tiny field mouse was sat just above the mud on a shelf. Holding a few rings of chain that was shaking along with the mouse. And looking behind him he could see a frail looking squirrel and a scruffy rat. Thankfully not the same who had given those directions or there would have been some words and blows exchanged.
"Well eh, at least were not alone are we?" The squig and rat didn't respond. Which wasn't good for their escape chances. Neither did the tiny mouse either. But as Orion looked back at him the rattling of the chain stopped as the mouse looked up. The fox following his gaze to see that there weren't any more toads looking down at the group. Before the mouse stood up on his little shelf and set the chain down beside him.
"Alright fox, you're tall enough and not ready to just wait for the stew pot." Orion blinking at the formally terrified looking little mouse but at least someone was willing to act. He had seen when he was shoved over toward this pit and didn't fancy being stuffed into that. So the confusion quickly turned to an authoritative nod.
"Right. What's the plan?" Before he acked at the mouse jumping right into his arms as he pointed up. He was tiny. Was this some mouthy kid?
"Up, we need to see how many stakes are holding this gate down." Well if he was he had some good ideas as Orion squished around in the bottom of the pit before he found some semi solid group and raised up his arms. Thankfully the best spot was near the wall so the mouse could support himself on the edge of the pit wall. He was almost to the gate itself before he adjusted himself and wobbled as he stood on top of Orions paws before jumping up. Not enough. The fox managing to catch him as the mouse just nodded.
"Again. Any time we waste is closer to dinner."
"I got a better idea." Orion would comment as he raised up a foot to brace himself against the wall before he crouched down and held the mouse low.
"Now hold on you brusAAAGH!" The mouse easily getting up to the grate as the fox threw him upwards to clunk against the top. Thankfully the mouse was able to wrap his arms around the bars as he dangled there. Before swinging back and fourth before managing to get his feet roped around the wooden beams. Taking the time to look down and glare at Orion who just flashed him his biggest ruby fang smile with two thumbs up.
"See? Now you are there no problem!" The glare turning into a smile before the mouse worked on maneuvering himself to try and clamber across the criss cross of wooden sticks to get to near the edge of it. Straining his head to fold up enough to get his head through the slates as he looked around. Before hissing and letting go of the grate as there was a muffled garble from above. And luckily Orion was there to catch him before he squirmed out of the foxes arms and sat down in the mud, motioning for Orion to do the same. The majestic floofy tail soon down in the mud as two toads came over to glare at them. Jabbing trident prongs through the bars.
"One of you jumping?" Headshakes from everyone as Orion glared at them. "Stay down food. Or we feed you too worse than us." Glancing down at his side Bloodtooth looked to see the mouse cowering away from them with his arms up, getting a laugh from the toads before they left. And then his arms were down as mousie nodded.
"There are only four steaks. Easily enough rope to get us out. Just need to think of some way to uproot them. I did see some spare vine rope at least."
"You part of an acting troupe Mousie?"
"What?...Is that really important right now?"
"What? You can't scheme and talk at the same time?" At least that got a response as the mouse smiled again before shaking his head. Standing up and raising up his arms as Orion picked him up again.
"No, just gota use what I have to make people look the other way. Easier to get what I want." Orion crouching down again to throw him up again. And now knowing the rough power needed the mouse didn't slam his face into the bars this time. Clinging onto them and spidering his way over to the side again
"Wow, paragon of goodness you are eh?" The tiny mouse scoffing as he looked up before managing to reach out of the pit and grab some of the vine rope. Gripping onto the wood with his teeth as he made a simple knot before letting it fall down. Orion able to grab hold of it as he gave it a few tugs before starting to clamber up the side of the wall with it. Glancing down at the squirrel and rat as he added. "You two come up after me, we gota get the grate open." They just silently nodded. Poor saps had been here for awhile it seemed like.
"Not all of us were born with your size and,"
"Handsome features?"
"Sure fox whatever." Some grunting as the mouse tried to get a hold of the side of the pit as he looked over at the toads. "I suppose you could call my family actors. They just often play only one role." Grabbing a hold of the bars above him Orion was surprised to feel them bend under his weight and grip. Glancing to the side at the mouse as he struggled and strained to reach over and pull up the steak holding the grate down. But it barely budged.
"And what role would that be? Adorable little farmers with a cute little innocent farm?" Orion had a feeling it wasn't that if this families kid was this mouthy and eager to move and do things but better to start from a high mark and work down. And judging by the strained chuckle the mouse had Orion was correct it wasn't that.
"Pfft - no. Water Rats aren't really know for their farming are they? Even your fluff filled head should know that." Rats eh? Bloodtooth already liked this go getting mouse but now he was interested as the fox braced his feet against the side of the pit and took hold of two of the bars near a joint.
"Well isn't that interesting! Well nice to meet you Mousie rat - Orion Bloodtooth," flashing a smile with his ruby tooth as the panting mouse looked back. "At your service of shortly making screams." And the fox would heave downward on the grate holding them inside this pit. Trying to push up wasn't ideal with the pegs and rope holding them down. So better to pull downward and hope for the best. It was as the grate was snapping and collapsing it on itself that Orion thought that he should have first tied the vine around his middle to hold him up near the top. So he could more easily climb out once he made a hole. But as he tumbled backwards over his own head and tail he could see the entire grate unraveling and falling down. So maybe that wouldn't have worked.
At least the mud would cushion the fall of the two as they fell down without anything to hold on anymore. But at least the chunk Orion had pulled out from the rest made the twine entirely separate on the rest of it. So while the two were showered with wooden sticks, twine, and vine at least the chunks were not that big. Though they were pretty damn sharp as both tried to cover their heads and necks. The mud now unfortunately all over Orions handsome muzzle as he looked up and glared at the Toads croaking and shouting above them.
"Well," the mouse coughed as he grabbed two of the larger bars of wood. "Better to be speared than eaten. Thrail."
"Frail? Yeah it really was wasn't it?" Orion almost grabbing two clubs of his own before he saw Thrail heading over. The rat and squirrel cowered from the voices as the two mud covered beasties came together again. Orion grabbing Thrail around the middle and preparing for throwing him up as hard as he could so the mouse would clear the side. Both nodding as Thrail grit his teeth.
"There's a T in there fox. My name." And up he went to tumble on the ground up there.
"Your name is frail?" Now it was Orions time to laugh as he called back up. Not like the mouse could do anything when he was trying to unwind the rope from the steak to lower it down.
"When we survive," Thrail would hiss as he managed to get it started at least before having to turn to face the two guard toads. "I'm going to make you eat that jibe!" Orion jamming the wooden sticks into the wall before using them as somewhat of a step to jump up and grab the rope as he worked on climbing out.
"Sure you will Thrail," well at least he got that right. "And then we'll become joint Chief of these frogs!" The two in the pit forgotten about by now as the fox managed to grab onto the steak holding his rope and haul himself out. Thrail wasn't dead yet as he ran backwards. And was running away from the pit to let Orion get up. What a smart field mouse. Now that he was up Orion would look around for some kind of weapon before shrugging as he crouched down and ripped the steak out of the ground. It was sharp it would do. And good and hefty!
Thrail running back towards Orion as the two faced a frog each - though not that either of them would notice that there seemed to be a lot more screaming and croaks around for the larder breaking open and some tough flans falling out should have produced.
Orion's frog trying to jab the trident into the foxes gut but foxie was able to hold out the long peg enough to clang the two weapons together. Before he tried to twist hard to the side with his paws on the top and bottom. While the toad managed to hold onto the trident it was still pushed to the side and no longer in danger of stabbing Orions soft belly. And without the danger the fox was able to hop forward to be right next to his opponent and bring down both of his paws together on the shorter creatures head. He needed two more good slams to get the toad to finally drop the trident. Which was then scooped up and jammed into his guts instead! "How'd you like it slimey?!" The fox would growl as he yanked the weapon out and held it ready to assist his new friend. Not noticing the screaming had mostly stopped around them as his frog gurgled and then lay still.
Thrail, as he was a tiny lil thing, was having trouble getting in close enough as the toad jabbed and stabbed the trident at him. But the mouse then left a foot forward as he leaned his body backwards. Making the toad croak in victory as he stabbed down at that lone footpaw! Thrail whipping it backwards before he leaned forward. The footpaw stamping down on the connection between the metal head and wooden haft as the mouse attempted to hop forward with the step of the trident and swing both of his make shift wooden clubs toward the toads head. He managed to strike but it was more of a glancing blow as the toad pulled back himself and Thrail was thrown off balance and flopped sideways onto the ground. But the smacks to the toads head did stun him long enough for Orion to easily skewer the toad in the side with his looted trident. The toad hurking and flopping to the side as Orion struck a pose for the scrabbling Thrail. Ruby tooth gleaming though the mud both were covered in.
"See? At your service, you're welcome et cetera et cetera." The mouse panting as he managed to get up onto his knees and held up a hand. Which Orion happily grabbed and pulled up as Thrail nodded and stretched his other arm to the side.
"Lots of slivers of wood and the like. But I can fix that before we get infections."
"Ooh, an actor and a healer? Thats quite the family you have Thrail."
"On the ground vermin," Both looking over before freezing as around ten squirrels were facing the two of them. Bows strung but not pulled back as many dead toads lay on the ground behind them. Full of arrows like they were about to be. The squirrel and rat from the pit being helped out by ropes as well as the squirrel with the brightest cloak flicked his tail. The arrows being raised up as mouse and fox quickly dropped to the floor with their paws behind their backs as two Squirrels bounded over to bind their hands. Both soon hauled to their feet as the squirrel leader hugged the frail one from the pit as the rat was restrained as well. The leader squirrel blowing a whistle as the group started to walk out of the swamp. The fox, rat, and mouse with them.
"Well," Thrail would mutter as they were marched off. "At least no stew pot."
"Aye aye - and I'm sure these squirrels are reasonable beastieOPPF," was as far as he got before a rag was stuffed in his mouth. Thrail and the rat quickly getting similar. Seems like it was no talking time!

Super glad you like it and seem to enjoy my portrayal of Orion. I have a few other writing projects in the que but I'll try to keep these two in mind for when its open. Perhaps them trying to deal with the Squirrel wedding. Or some other scenario that the two get stuck in. Heck maybe them dealing with the Duke of Daisies!
