After his family died and he was left mutilated during an uprising, Kari was forced to beg on the streets for a couple years, and he's pretty damn good at it. He knows how to put on a sad kitty face and tug at everyone's heartstrings. Still, not the happiest time of his life.
He later met a human priest named Joachim, who is trying to run a charity of sorts with the goal of fostering better relationships between humans and non-humans, and helping the poor and needy. Kari joined in and helped where he could, getting some food in exchange and occasionally a roof over his head.
