My strings pull downward when the curtains fall;
Attached to a wooden halo of fake.
I thought myself only able to crawl
Should the strings give way under mistake.
Applause from the crowd behind curtains closed.
Critics review a performance not mine,
Instead the mundane expectations posed-
Behind a mask crafted to please divine.
Beating, pulsing reminders in my wrists,
Leading the tempo through my final scene.
The scripts of ancestors try to persist
As the scissor’s amendments intervene.
Slivers of the rough drafts transmogrify-
