So, this is a knife I made after seeing an ebay seller list two similar looking knives under the impression that they were for leatherworking, more specifically cobbler work. The person who made shoes.
Most times out of ten when I saw a knife that looked like the ones in the listing it was intended for carving chips in whittling work under the craft known as "sloyd.
The seller wanted 80 dollars for the pair and I had no interest in buying such things at that price nor did I need two of them, but the idea of using it for leatherwork kind of made sense, though the actual knives themselves are rather small.
So I thought it'd be interesting to make my own that is a larger sized version.
I made this from a piece of old high carbon circular saw blade. Not the modern type where there are brazed on carbide teeth, those don't really work since they're a lower carbon steel.
It holds a great edge and is really springy. It's going to glide through leather with ease!
The ferrule is a piece of brass pipe I made using a method I saw in this video, but not as complicated as he did with a lathe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9weLiq1OksI&t=802s&ab_channel=Torbj%C3%B6rn%C3%85hman
