Gonna start this Spooktober season with an unexpected Pokemon choice for an eerie drawing! So I go with Mew! May look cute, but there's always two sides to the coin.
Mew's mythical status gives it a similar vibe to that of a cryptid, especially with the mysterious and terrifying powers it may possess. Its whole lore with it being the common ancestor of every Pokemon and its psychic abilities make it fitting for something fearsome when you think about it.And if I'm not wrong, both the audiodrama prequel of the first anime movie and the Journeys series implied and even showed Mew could be a destructive force if it wanted to. That helps to explain Mewtwo's fierce nature. So better think twice before trying to catch it, maybe its cute looks are just there to deceive you... or just wants to play, haha
And like with other Pokemon drawings, added a little bit of realistic touches, mostly on the anatomy aspect, since I looked at some feline references for its pose and body shape this time, keep in mind Mew is a strange cat/jerboa creature, lmao. Mew is certainly adorable, like every cat you know, but cats are hunters, and they know how to attack.
So yeah, Pokemon are cute and scary, which is something I love, lol

Honestly you've captured the essence of this creature design in a way that makes all the sense in the world, and yet I've never actually seen executed visually.
I mean....
One of these things was able of fighting Mewtwo while basically treating it like a game most of the time.

I thought of Legendary, especially Mythicals, Pokemon to be very similar to cryptids, with people telling stories about them, with others considering them just to be myths with no substantial proof of their existence, maybe some facts are even exagerated, which would make them even more mysterious. Mew was the first example I thought fitted the "cryptid" criteria the most, especially after checking some lore of the first movie, mostly the audio drama in which Mew is considered to be either benevolent or rather destructive and unpredictable. If I'm not wrong, Mew originally had some dialogue in the script of the first movie, and its personality was rather mean spirited, with it outright provoking Mewtwo to attack by mocking his clone origin, lol. I saw that on a DYKG video.
