Before the Red Chain, Atrus was a hiker from Oreburgh City. He started his life on his own working in the mines, which he used the money to build a house of his own. In time, his personal fortunes grew and his life more successful. In time, he had a place that made many others jealous.
But there came a price to this. As Atrus's wealth grew, his thoughts and motives turned ever inward, distrusting his own neighbors and accusing them of wanting everything that he had. Though he continued to make speeches of hard work and sacrifice to others, he grew complacent and lazy with what he'd earned all those years. Lost in a sea of luxury and materialism, Atrus' concerns for the world were no longer a worry. From now on, he was in it for himself.
Even when Ash and company told him of what was happening, Atrus was reluctant. As long as it didn't cost him anything, he could care less if the world went to hell in a handbasket; however, on a whim, Atrus decided to guide the party up to the peak of Mount Coronet. To his dismay, he was forced to follow them along all the way to Spear Pillar, where the ritual was complete!
Even then with his temporary allies suffering, Atrus was only concerned about his own skin, and fled down the steps. Cyrus's mighty power was more than a match for him and Atrus found himself trapped, attacked in his own mind at the sudden realization of how much like a rat he truly was. The power drained him of much of his body fat and destroyed his house and everything he'd worked so hard to achieve. Atrus was left alone with nothing, everything crushed in an instant.
Emotionally devastated and with nowhere else to go, he pleaded with Ash and Company to take him back, not to leave him on the mountain to die. Though there was hesitation among the party, it was decided that Atrus could come along with them as long as he earned his keep there. He has not separated from the party since.
His time away from his material house has taught him much of the survival skills he'd forgotten about. He'd started with simple clothes, a sling with some stones, and a crudely made spear all from a survival knife. Now that he's returned from the good lands, he's properly armed himself with better weapons and armor including a japanese knife and a tri-bladed Yari. Slowly, he's come to a revelation that he is independent, cunning, and resourceful enough to survive in even a torn world like this and that everything he worked for could easily be rebuilt. He swears never to become so attached to a pampered life again.
Author's Notes: Splee! :D Atrus in an action pose, knife in his hand as he hisses ferociously to the opposing enemy whatever they are.
I just found out I can use scanners while my computer is in the shop. But as I'm celebrating spring break tonight, I'm stoked on time right now. So I can't post
