it's disgusting to think that some people don't think anything even happened in japan,and that it's just a hoax..seriously. and they'd be the first to whine and baaaw if anything happened near them :/

I don't have a TV and missed a lot of the news stories; was only after I saw that huge wave in a video tearing thru the center of a small coastal city that I realised just how bad it was. Japan has lived with quakes for hundreds of years and the modern buildings are stronger than most of the California earthquake code construction...
But we all forget that there's lots of older buildings that cann't take a strong quake.
They did a lot to prepare for trouble but there is still widespread damage. I haven't checked today but it sounds like all of those GE reactors that we sold them years ago are in meltdown now. There's no telling how many hundreds of billions of dollars in damages those reactors will cost them eventually.
And naturally, the US will deny any responsibility for badly designed equipment.
