wow that's pretty cool! ... found her near work on the ground near the garage door, it was desperate for shade and trying to get out of the sun and heat so I took it in until sundown :)

Neat. Incidentally, that is very much how I ended up raising an entire brood of them. I took one inside to escape the rain because she looked like she was close to dying (they expire after laying their eggs) and during the night she deposited about 100 eggs about the room. Since they weren't on their food plant, they wouldn't have survived without help as there were no suitable trees around so I spent the next few months collecting leaves for them and cleaning their little habitats out and watching over them until they spun cocoons.

When fall came, they emerged and I set them free. The males flew off to find mates and the females hung out in the trees using their pheromones to attract males. =) Was quite rewarding to see.

I'm so jealous! Great capture!

I was lucky enough to see one of these in the "wild" once (on the side of a building, heh) but they are so pretty. Kinda sad they don't survive for very long, but I suppose that's common with insects!

yah unfortunatly most moths don't eat (they don't have mouth) they reproduce and die
