this poem is a social commentary. it reflects how people who make have guilty consiences tend to gravitate towrds others who they view as simmilar in an atempt to cleanse themselves

"the first stanza is the overview or the entire poem. the second stanza is about soneone with morally questionable character taking he consequences for their actions. the third stanza is that same person crying out to someone for solace, almost like how teenagers go to their friends and say "mom was yelling at me for smoking, i hate that bitch" and the second half of that stanza is their friends chiming in. and the last two stanzas show that these situations can be completely avoided"
