This was an interesting exercise in initially writing myself into a corner I didn't want to be in and summarily blowing a hole in the wall instead.

You capture what I call "fat swagger" so wonderfully. It oozes beyond the dialogue and expressions and into the gestures and movement. I was a little confused by 2 things:
1. So the "pink luggage" room number was one Rex gave out to Barnaby as a decoy?
2. Assuming the 2 were playing Texas Hold 'Em, Barnaby landed a full house (queens full of kings) by the turn--the 2nd nuts, if I'm not mistaken. The only hand that would have him beat is quads (i.e., Rex holding pocket kings).
Aside from those two points, this was classic teasing fun where the games don't end at the (poker) felt. Fun read.
