Well, in the Lovecraft myths, I say the more "foolish" the more one can "live", the more "you know" or the more "lucid", the more susceptible you are to these... "forces". So without preparation being "lucid" yes, it is a danger to have "contact" without adequate protection or supervision... it can be the birth of a new aberration.
Although if he is a "fool" he can end up "crazy", in a coma or even with mental problems if he is careless (the mildest case would be memory loss or severe headaches, in the most serious, brain death in the "mild" cases).
