Born in July 356 BC, Alexander was the son of Philip II of Macedon, and was educated by Aristotle himself. The young King asserted dominance over the Balkans and the European Greek city-states before crossing into Asia Minor to liberate the Greek states there from the Persians. Defeating Basileus Darius III in a series of decisive battles, he took over the Persian Empire and Egypt (being acclaimed there as a god, and founding the city of Alexandria), and pushed as far east as the Indus River in modern-day Pakistan before turning back. He died in 323 BC, in Babylon, at the age of thirty-three.
Alexander remains one of the most successful generals ever. Napoleon paid homage to him.
He's depicted here as a European Lion by
rabbi-tom, and is part of my Historical Furries series.
