Madeleine decided she wanted to be a pirate and convinced Marcus to be her first mate. Lacking a proper pirate ship they chose to use their really big stuffed bolne, really it kinda looks like a pirate ship if you squint right.

Kazar Jurgin is the most famous pirate captain to sail the Aldenian Sea. His story is thought to be mostly legend as he was captured some time before the nation of Aldenea was established. He was known as "Captain Clanker" because he's believed to have hung metal plates over the sides of his ship to deflect cannon balls. He was eventually captured by Commodore Valto Norton. There was a children's novel written about him some time ago that remains popular, and some actors will portray him in plays or children's events.

As for the creature they are riding on, there are no large land mammal species on Fruga, the name of their world. Bolne are large herbivorous reptiles that serve a similar purpose to horses on earth. Dek are a slightly smaller, and fatter, reptile that are used as cattle, mainly for meat.
