Nightingale is the vampire daughter of Sasha Brown (later Kahuul Thestralya) and Nyx Thestralya. Born in the mortal world to Sasha and Nyx, she is your typical loner, though that's brought on in part by her being one of very few vampires in the mortal realm. In spite of the fear she commands from mortals, she's not afraid to show the world she's a vampire, her thoughts being "If I wanna have live squirrel for a snack and play chicken with a beaker of acid, I'm gonna have a tangy snack and scare everyone in the room as my hand fizzles away before regrowing and I'm not gonna apologize for it.". She's broad-bodied, considers herself a rebel, and isn't afraid to pick a fight. In the mortal realm, she wore a black leather or short-sleeved jacket, red sleeves (with the short-sleeved jacket), red leggings, black boots, a red skirt, red t-shirt, and a pair of UV glasses or sunglasses, though in the vampire realm, the glasses were the only thing to go, despite having no UV light in that realm to blind or kill her. She has (like all vampires from Nyx's world) gray skin and inherited her green hair from Nyx's biological father. When she was fifteen, she got a tattoo without telling Sasha or Nyx about it, though neither had a problem upon finding out. At sixteen, she officially (in her words) became a biker girl and, at seventeen, turned her childhood friend Elena into a vampire (against her wishes) when she was suffering from AL Amyloidosis, turning her [Elena] into Cheyenne. Upon Gair's defeat and her grandmother's crowning Sasha (now Kahuul Thestralya) and Nyx as King and Queen, she assumed the title of Princess, though she remained a rebel personality and spends most of her time with Cheyenne. Nightingale's upbringing led her to be more assertive in her beliefs and very impassive when something is said about her (such as vampires are bloodthirsty, flesh-eating monsters), often giving limited warning before becoming violent to perpetuate the statement. After assuming the role of princess, she began wearing red lipstick and fingernail polish, as well as getting more tattoos on her face the color of blood. For her to make a connection with anyone (vampire or mortal), she puts them through a series of rigorous tests. If they beg for mercy, call her «Princess», or betray her with a preconceived notion, she will be the face of their torturer, she will be the face of Death, and she will be the face of their judgement. She has had a few pet humans on-and-off over the centuries, mostly for entertainment, but she does not let them die until she's ready or fed up with them. The concept of mortal frailty and death, both, are lost on her as she hasn't had to deal with either in a meaningful way since Elena became Cheyenne.
