Hey all, Vera here again.
This is probably the last upload for a week, so I'm making it count. Now, Random did not have much to do with this performance per se, but he helped me practice by performing a piano reduction of the orchestral accompaniment (which is more difficult than the solo part!) while I played the violin (and I don't think I need to explain how much help that was!). The contest panel (yeah, this was a bit of a violin competition) was quite amazed, heh. Anyway, it's a fairly old recording and I was pretty young when this was recorded. The orchestra is that of a Roman conservatory, not a professional one, but I don't think one can tell the difference here, only from my playing, surely!

This is one of my most favorite violin pieces EVER!!!
As a general rule, I don't like concertos, because they are usually written to allow the performer to show off, but in the case of this concerto, it is not only difficult, it is BEAUTIFUL!!

Your young-ness shows up in places, but I like the confidence and the exuberance you displayed here. I'm not surprised the panel was that impressed. :) I think it would be interesting to see how your performance of this has matured. The Mendelssohn is such a refined and elegant concerto, and no doubt the nuances you apply to it have changed over time. (Yeaaah, that didn't make much sense, but you get what I mean... I hope. : )
