"We're getting close to the target." Lukos stated, leading the way with Anuhe trailing closely, "The tracks are fresh and the scent is getting stronger. They can't be more than one floor ahead of us."
The Sylveon breathed a sigh of relief, "Good, and not a moment too soon. The sun is starting to set, and I'd rather not wander around this mystery dungeon at night. Should we go over the plan one more time before the encounter?"
"Of course." Lukos said, head near the ground while still focused on his tracking, "The criminal has no known allies, and was seen fleeing to this mystery dungeon on their own. There is only one set of tracks, and I don't detect any other scents mixed with their own. They'll be alone against the two of us, unless any wild Pokémon stumble upon us and decide to join the fray, but they'll be as hostile to them as they are to us."
He then stood up, keeping a steady pace as he continued, "Regardless, this criminal is no pushover, so don't get careless even if we aren't interrupted by the dungeon inhabitants. We know that Ice Beam is their preferred attack, and they are quite well trained in using it. Once they realize I'm with the Guardians Guild to apprehend them, they'll likely start focusing their offense on me. I'll make them think they have us on the defensive, and that will be your opportunity for a clear shot. Strike true, and the battle should be won quickly afterwards."
"Sounds like a solid strategy!" Anuhe said excitedly, hyping himself up for the fight ahead, "I'll also summon Eirtr and join with him for maximum firepower. This troublemaker won't know what hit him!"
"...Do you really think that's a good idea, Anuhe?" The Lycanroc said with his brow furrowed, but not breaking his gaze away from the path ahead. His tone sounded disapproving, and Anuhe picked up on it.
"Well... Yes. Why do you ask, do you think that we can handle it on our own?"
"I know that we can, easily. So why involve the spirits in this?
"It practically turns the battle into three versus one, and Eirtr's power of fire will grant us additional protection from their Ice Beam. That gives us all an overwhelming advantage over our opponent." Anuhe explained, "I thought you wanted a quick and clean takedown, so I'm confused why this would be an issue."
"I just remember back when you acquired those bracelets. Your life had been turned upside down. At first you behaved so strange and secretive, but now you join your body with these ghosts on the regular."
"I've gained a lot of control over these bracelets since then, Lukos." Anuhe asserted, "I had no choice but to learn how to harness this power, and you know it's impossible to bottle up the spirits forever, even if I wanted to."
"I'm aware." Lukos sighed, "I can't help but worry anyway that these bracelets and ghosts are changing you."
"They already have. I had to adapt to it, but I believe it is changing me for the better if anything. They haven't changed my heart, what I stand for, or who I value as my friends and family." Anuhe said optimistically, "I hope you can see that."
"I trust you, Anuhe. It's the spirits I'm not so sure about, and Eirtr especially isn't helping us out of pure altruism."
"...You know that Eirtr can hear you, right?"
"Yeah, I know." Lukos said unflinchingly.
Anuhe chuckled, "You know, you might get along with Eirtr better than you think. He finds your brand of honesty rather refreshing. If you're willing to try, I think you should get to know some of the spirits personally, they can be good friends... Most of them anyway. Just keep your trust in me for now, and perhaps they'll earn your trust on their own merits over time. How does that sound?"
"I suppose that is the best I can hope for if I am to keep journeying with you, my friend, which I absolutely will." Lukos said, finally glancing toward Anuhe with a confident and reassuring smile, relieving the Sylveon. The Lycanroc then turned his sight back ahead as the two stepped into a clearing, an unknown figure waiting just ahead.
"Now put on your battle face, be ready for anything, and do tell Eirtr to try and keep up."
