Guhhhhh.that's insane. I don't think I'd remotely have the patience for that. The most complex thing I ever did (and granted I am like NO where near your skill level) was around 32 hours (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/4410280/) and that frustrated me so much I've hardly done art since. <_<
Awww, I'm so sorry to hear! If it helps, it really shows how much effort you put into the background - the sky looks straight out of a photo and is beautifully subtle, and I can tell the sort of detail work went into the water. And the sand! Why is it "ground" can be so strangely hard and detailed and demanding, right?? I feel ya :b
I used a real beach picture to base the sky and water one, though argh... was so much brush work 99% "Undo", 1% keep as far as strokes went. The beach was the hardest thing of all, so omg.. yes, I get that entirely - ground for as simple as you'd think it'd be was nearly impossible. I appreciate the feedback though, I'm glad the effort shows.
Makes me curious - what do you find to be the hardest part of pictures that you do?

I struggle most with architecture and mechanical components - they have unforgiving 3D geometries that our eyes can pick up and recognise as "wonky" fairly easily. I also struggle with drawing things in "3D space" as the interact with each other - like, a floating character on its own is so much easier to me compared to one that has to be look physically grounded in a "real" environment surronded by "real" objects that look natural and not just "Photoshopped" on top or nearby, as it were. I also have a personality disorder that makes me really nit-picky and perfectionistic that (aside from general stress lol) can cause me to overwork stuff, or essentially lose the forest for the trees :b
Amazing to read you had/have that struggle; with that picture of Nuuk (the orca), I had thought the background would be the easy part, when it ended up being a nightmare for the very things you point out here. I think I have the same issue as well - I"m definitely OCD about trying to "finish" something properly, and then never consider it finished because I don't consider it to be as good as it should be (and this is not just art but a lot of things). Definitely stress inducing. So... how do you convince yourself to call it "done" then? And sorry don't mean to be hijacking the comments like this.
Hey, no worries! Always happy to chat :)
I think I've just gotten over it with practice? Like, at some point, things just "feel" done now and I can move on, and/or I've accepted to "mistakes" or "flaws" as details that somehow enrich the picture, or are something I can try to get better at in the future.
Also, when it comes to paid work, there are things like budget or time constraints - I think doing it for a living has taught me how to be content with things, even when I'm not content, you know? As I said, I think it just came with practice!
I try to use OCD neurotic rules FOR me, rather than against me. When a picture is done, it's done. I won't fiddle with it again. It goes down in history as a little art time capsule, for better or for worse. So I can just move on after that, I guess?

Mmm all makes very good sense. Doing it for a living would absolutely force a sorta "best for business" call on production time vs. personal satisfaction.
Good gods... I'm getting old too - some of this sounded familiar and I was thinking "wait... did I interview Jocarra for the Paw Post?" - and I did - you were the October 16th, 2015 artist highlight! Jeez... 8 years ago already. And your art has just continued to evolve and amaze since. <3
