This is another super old one that I had in storage for a while. Another D&D character. I'm posting it now hoping it'll give me reason to draw more and get out of my art block
This is one I not only got to use, be this character even got her own homebrew subclass. In D&D, Artificer is my favorite class just for the concept and use. One thing that had me curious though was a subclass, why isn't there one that makes traps? It would be really great and add a new play to the game, a subclass of artificer designed to make the battlefield more difficult for their enemies. That's what I wanted to pull of with Snika.
If she didn't get her homebrew subclass, I had in mind a secondary option. While Artillerist isn't perfect, I could try to pull it off with other immitated bits.

Name: Snika of Vorte
Race: Kobold
Background: Tribal Crafter
Class: Artificer
Backstory (Snika's POV): I took great pride and strived for the best, making traps all along our kobold den. A safe den meant the eggs would be safe, and it would please our dragon, Vorte. Though I had never met the dragon, the elders spoke with him regularly to decide what would help our tribe. I thought if my traps and defenses were good enough, I could be made an elder and get to meet our dragon. As long as I lived long enough for that day. Beyond that, I got to go with some of the other kobolds and trade with passing wagons or people wanting guidance through the valley. We were still as monsters and made them wary, but that was why I didn't speak for the tribe when trading. I let those better at it than I handle that. A common trader with our tribe was a dwarf named Cedric, he actually got away from his caravan's to see a little more of the den. He would laugh at my traps, say they could be better. Aggitated by this one time I demanded him to say how they could be better. To my surprise, he was really calm about it. He explained and even showed me how I could improve the traps I made. Following his advice, I found him to be right so many times. It was discouraging at first, but it made me want to know more. Each time I could see him, I would ask for lessons, and he would teach me more and more. He knew lots about what rocks to use, adjusting and moving them to hide traps, he even knew what wood worked best with them to make spikes and weapons. Then, one night came a siege no one of the tribe was ready for. Monsters almost twice our size came charging right into our den. The traps had barely stopped them, and crushed my kin like bugs. The few of us that could make a run for it did with arms full of eggs from the nurseries. I did what I could to buy us time; setting up new traps as best I could while we would make our ways for the escape tunnels. Once we were out, I helped to collapse the tunnel with two others, and we ran. The other two had died from hatchets being thrown at us. By the time I could hide and stayed in cover, I was alone. Alone, lost, near helpless. The elders said they had spoken with our dragon if this would happen, but I never heard a defined location to run to. I had no idea where they were or how to find them. I was at a loss for ideas till a name ran in my head, Cedric. Cedric knew of us, and had traveled farther than any of us ever has. It was not my best idea, but it was my only idea. He had to know where they could have gone. I will go as far as I must to reach them, they are as close as I have to family. I will find my tribe again.
