Sonic has been around since the early 90's and hasn't had a long timeout ever since. MLP on the other hand, has been gone for years with only a small cult following and suddenly a new cartoon appears and becomes an instant bandwagon

that happened because the previous MLP cartoons were used to entertain 3-5 year old children, so, it was like a disaster.

The new one brings a bit of good humor for everyone, but the story is quite predictable

Because it's totally kawaii desu and all the cool people on the internet like it so that means it's cool and it's funny when they put hilarious memes on screencaps that really have no relevancy to the text at all but it's okay because it's ponies ugu~

This is awesome, thank you! It's a simple design and therefore easy to "create your own" little pony so there's bound to be ten bajillion little ponies running around

I think there's a pretty reasonable explanation for how it took off so fast, honestly. Over the past 10 years or so it seems that the average kids' show is getting lower and lower in quality and production values. I know that most shows today suck compared to the ones I watched as a kid (the new Blues Clues pales in comparison to the original, for instance). So when a new My Little Pony cartoon came out, I'd guess most people had really low expectations and looked at it mostly as a source for exploitable images. When I first heard about the hype, I thought it was going to be one of those serioux bizness "so bad it's good" shows. So I watched it and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was actually genuinely well thought-out!

Now multiply this by a couple hundred trolls who have fond memories of Powerpuff Girls and a handful of furries who have a crush on one of the main characters, and you've got an internet phenomenon.

ya thats what makes it for me to hate on it, the animation quality is stupid-good for the content. its so refreshing to see a show with some effort put into it.

I haven't even seen the show yet, but apparently I have to get on that or I'm going to be deported soon.

I was a pony before all of this.. the rest are just catching onto the awesomeness.

I'll be honest with you man, at first I was all like: "WTF!? Why everyone is watching that show? What's so great about it? IT'S A CARTOON FOR LITTLE GIRLS! What's the problem of people these days?" And then, to answer this question of mine, I decided to watch one or two episodes of the cartoon to try to understand why everybody loves it so much... and then I found out that the show is actually pretty good... and now I like it too. I guess everybody loves MLP: FiM because of the facial expressions, the cuteness and the animation.
