The four stages of tax season.
Most people from Livejournal are familiar with my online habits this time of year, but for those of you that are not...
I am a tax CPA by profession, so the weeks leading up to April 15 are the busiest time of year in my office. I try to handle the pressure gracefully, but when I cannot, I avoid being online because I dislike spreading a bad mood around to those who try to get in touch with me. So if you don't hear from me this time of year (and also generally around September), please don't be offended. Frankly, I hate everyone (yes, EVERYONE) right now, so it's nothing personal
On the off chance you do hear from me, this doodle illustrates what you can expect after Further Confusion:
Stage 1: Initially (February-ish), I'll be perfectly fine as long as my stamina lasts. So even though I'm very busy with limited online time and probably not posting a heck of a lot, I'm generally in a decent mood.
Stage 2: By now (March), the stupid clients, long hours, lack of sleep, @#$% time change, and everything else have built up. I'm very touchy and anti-social, and it's a bad idea to try talking to me. I usually cut off email completely because it becomes nothing but bile and expletives. I clearly remember one coworker saying "Huh. It's March, and Vince is smiling. Something is REALLY wrong." (I can't remember why, I think it was because a horrible client no longer wanted our services, good riddance). So yeah, even they all know to steer clear of me by now.
Stage 3: Still at it (April). I'm too tired to even be cranky, pretty much just going through the motions. You won't get your head bitten off, but you may not be acknowledged at all. Apathy and disinterest abound, so don't even bother trying to engage me in anything.
Stage 4: Very rare, but if it happens, it will come the few days before April 15. I basically go nuts and am punchy all the time. Some people think this is a good thing because I'm suddenly in a better mood. It's really not; it's quite dangerous because it simply means my brain has shut down completely. While I'm essentially harmless at this stage, it isn't a pretty sight.
So yeah. I'm currently right at the cusp of Stage 2 and Stage 3 right now. This is my way of apologizing for being out of touch lately. I'll be on top of things again mid-April, mmkay?
TL;DR: I LOVE YOU ALL BUT PLEASE LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE FOR A COUPLE MORE WEEKS XD

LOL! Yeah, that seems like par for the course on what you've told us in the past...
Looking forward to when you can be past and free of all of that until next year.
And you know I always wonder why so many wait till the last minute to do their taxes. Are there really that many people who have to wait for extra documents, who have to fill out extra-complicated forms, or who simply can't do it themselves? Are they that lazy/busy/procrastinating? Or what? Because I always do mine ASAP once I've gotten my W-2... *scratches head*
Note I intend no disrespect to anyone who has to wait and can't do their taxes early, I am just genuinely puzzled as to why so many do. One would think they'd want their returns back sooner. Unless of course they aren't getting a refund/are afraid of owing a lot or being audited...

the same stages could be said about anoyone working in the mass transit industry. I hit stage 2, scared a couple people and got fired, still hoping to find a no-fee guy to sue them for wrongful termination.
this tax season yeah i'm done already, I'm smart enough to file and prepare my own tax returns. So now I have to dodge the bricks.
Stage 4 is the best, so unpredictable. Looks mild manner then the crazy hits all at once. Fun for all ages.

Oh yes, I'm definitely at stage 2 now, I'm soooo fed up with the brain-dead customers, blaming me they are not getting a huge refund like their friend (who has a completely different tax situation). It's because you're on social assistance and not paying any tax throughout the year, AUGH!!
I've hit what you call stage 4, usually skipping right past two and three in the process. That's when my reaction time becomes so poor that I run right through red lights and only realize it a minute later.
It's not like I can complain about people being out of touch.
One last thing, just because it's really fun to say. I can leg press half a ton.

Here's hoping things get better soon.
Pfft. Like any of us know better than to take what YOU say seriously during your four stages, especially around this season.
Trust me, the only way you could get through and under our thick skin is that if you used a blowtorch. Don't worry about it; we're an understanding bunch.

Wow. Now I KNOW how tax season is. Thank you for sharing your educational doddles Prof, Takamoto. *BTW, I snug your tail*
*looks at Stages 2 & 4* Umm.. forget what I sent you in your notes files; I can wait until yer a sweet, loving fluffy fox again. ^^;;; I lost my ISO fan short story due to a computer mishap, so the illustrations will wait. *flees before you get enraged* @_@

Odd I like tax time :) All my investments are linked to the tax file number and automatically populates the government e-tax program with franking credits. And lodging online I can get my tax return two weeks earlier :3. Not to mention the Australian government will now work out your tax for you and if you agree with the return or outcome you can select it, or you still have the option to do it yourself :3
... please... oh please... you're really scaring the crap out of me... CPA? Wow! Maybe I'll try to get a CPA after my ACCA since the market is really coming strong towards public accountants. But.. you're making me scared. I'm fuck afraid of the time line of all those taxes and auditings that must be done in order to get the company an unqualified report.
Though... Sanity sounds nice after April... XD
