A Three-part series.
Ten years after Zero Day, humanity and the Children of the Egg must find ways to coexist in a world where the protections and safeties of a societal net fray. When the systems fail in a reality that it was never meant to cope with, what is left? A group of American and Canadian entrepreneurs in the Western United States find themselves doing what they must to survive. In the process, they find friends, allies, and enemies in unexpected places.
This story is largely a stand-alone. Taking place within my world but not requiring knowledge of the other stories (-ish) to understand.
Hope you enjoy!

I'm thrilled that you noticed that little detail, and thank you. I try to add in as many of the effects of aliens telling humanity they've had enough of their nonsense as I can think of. Another little detail that is a bit more subtle is how scarce goods are (the remark about slinkies and how worn everyone's clothes are) and how many businesses have gone under (the abandoned mall). The hints at war between groups within Canada and the United States gets a mention too.
I've been considering the price of food for the story, and been playing with the idea of the governments of some countries nationalizing the food (farm) industries to keep people from starving. One factor in the run-away inflation. Luxuries on the other hand are nearly non-existent at the moment due to the scarcity of resources. It is even mentioned in this chapter that these ideas they're looking to develop will have to be constructed out of "reclaimed" materials.
