Not sure, I actually didn't like the second one overall. I thought the writing for almost everyone in the BPRD was incredibly weak save for the doctor, and despite my liking the storyline of the Fae side of things... The writing of the main crew wrecked it for me. I hope it returns to the original style and someone can actually write Liz into a like able character. I don't remember her being that particularly obnoxious in the comics.
the thing about the golden army that put me off was that the cliffhanger of the first movie suggested that that manager guy was coming to terms with hellboy, but in the sequel its like nothing has happened, none of the caracters had evolved, and yeah some of the writing is just obnoxious.

No doubt about that, I'd just figure that a higher standard would be in order for such a picky director and crew. I'd definitely say that the characters seemed to devolve actually. Hellboy was more obstinate and childish than ever, Liz acted like a spoiled angst ridden teenager, Abe was just cringe worthy with whatever pubescent attitude they gave him, the director I actually completely disregarded existence to it was so poorly done. The only character I even liked on the BPRD this time around was the doctor. I loved Hellboy in the original, yeah he had some juvenile tendencies but this one he was more neanderthal and gorilla mixed with a petulant child than ever.
As for worse movies... Look no further than "SyFy" channel. Forever lowering the limbo bar for movies with every title.
