Terry, u are supposed to be on lockdown
Vanessa, how is dad doing? Does he like Ghostface and Freddy Krueger?
I watched the new FNAF. *deep breath*
Let's talk? (spoilers!!)
In fact, there will be neither absolute praise of the film nor its belittlement. I’ll just note the moments that I liked and which raised questions.
The film is good. I can't say it's an engrossing masterpiece that I'll watch until I know it by heart. But I can’t call the movie bad either. It’s really just not bad, it understands what it is and doesn’t try to be sublime horror like the new Hellraiser 2022 :_) I would even say that FNAF 2023 to some extent is really kids-friendly more than I thought, yes, that you can safely show it to children, as Jonesy said, as an introduction to the horror genre. Children love horror, I know it from myself :)
Now about specific things in the film. I’ll note right away that I was never so closely involved in the fandom that I knew everything very well, but at the time of the peak of FNAF’s popularity, I was constantly hanging around.
So, there are still moments in the film where something was missing or moments that raise questions. Starting from the scene of Golden Freddy's taxi ride and the scene of biting the woman in half, which seemed a little ridiculous to me, and ending, as for me, with the plot hole about how Vanessa realized that it was Afton who stole Garrett, and not some random maniac? Maybe I missed the location or some fact, but there was a clear feeling that Vanessa simply implicated Garrett in the Afton murders. After all, I don’t remember any moments in the film where she somehow understands this moment, finds out or has known for a long time that Golden Freddy’s name is Garrett or something like that. It seems like it wasn't even stated that Vanessa knows the names of the ghosts.
I also briefly didn’t understand where the mask with the saws came from, who made it, why and when (or am I missing something in games?)
The rest of the film really forced you not to take your eyes off. The animatronics, although it was strange to see them in the film and not in the game, look pleasantly creepy. They behaved strangely in a moment of friendliness, but this was well justified by the lore, by the fact that they were, after all, deceived children. These scenes kept me comfortable and tense at the same time - just the way I like it. It seems like you want to be touched, but then you remember what animotronics are capable of at any moment and it becomes alarming.
The second half of the film picked up pace better than the slightly slow beginning, and by the end it seemed to go completely crazy. Perhaps the ending seemed a little crumpled to me, but it wasn’t drawn out like the beginning. Springtrap looked unnaturally aged, as if the scuffs and erosions were intended to be on him from the start, rather than developed over time on the originally clean and smooth animatronic. I wanted to hit the decorators a little with a jar of bitumen varnish and texture paste for poor quality aging of the material. And in general, Springtrap looked too much like a suit and not an animatronic suit. There was no space for the structures and no space for the body in them. But that doesn't change the fact that I liked him.
AND
DID YOU SEEN HOW HE WIPPED HIS KNIFE LIKE A GHOSTFACE?? How was the killer's identity suddenly revealed, as in Screams? Is Afton played by an actor from Scream?? Don’t you think that the authors seemed to be on topic and in fun? And besides Scream, I caught the vibe of A Nightmare on Elm Street, when Mike was wounded in his dream and the wounds were transferred to reality, and when Afton called the kids to play. This is terribly cool!
ALL IN ALL. I liked the film more than not, maybe because I didn’t expect anything from it. I wasn't expecting him because... Rumors about the film have been circulating for years. Most likely it will be mega strange for people who have never heard anything about FNAF, but if you have the most minimal idea of what the games look like and what happens there, I think the movie will be enjoyable to get acquainted with. It has a slightly different atmosphere and rhythm than the games, but that's why it's a movie. It's a re-imagining of beloved characters and history, and it's... fun?
AND
All my criticisms of the film were undone when THAT SONG FROM THE CREDITS began to play. How we SCREAMED. Lord, what power the things you once loved have. It was as if for that moment I was walking to school again with this song on my headphones. Despite the fact that I often listened to this song in recent years. How it was needed there and they inserted it...... that's just AAAAAAAAAA
Creepy headcanon
The animatronic version of Terry is a moving stuffed animal... of me? Unlike the original animatronics, which contained the bodies of the dead, in my case the fur and feathers with which the frame is lined are real.
I don’t know who killed me, maybe Afton himself, maybe someone from Merkoff, or maybe Hate or Freddy Krueger, I don’t know
