Thirok is a member of the Va'aaran lizardfolk who make their home in the badlands often alongside the mountain salamanders who prefer to keep to the higher cliffs with minimal interaction between them and the Va'aaran outside the rain season. When the floods come food is scarce for the salamanders who can't go down to the bottom of the canyon floor for their usual food of plants and bugs, so they'll trade with the Va'aaran for fish with ores and gemstones that they often come across.
Thirok is the one in charge of these trades, making sure that both parties recieve fair value in the exchange, though he would rather become an adventurer and explore beyond the badlands and see how the other races live after hearing stories about the salamander's kin in distant lands and the occasional human explorer traveling through the badlands with a Va'aaran guide. He never expected to get his wish one day due to his duties to the tribe untill one day one of the distant salamanders showed up looking to meet with and learn about their kin in other lands. Thirok was tasked to introduce this salamander to their neighbours which he was eager to do as it allowed him to hear stories from this rare wandering salamander of the places they've been to and their adventures along the way. Though when the time came that their guest, Grenka, had to continue her journey Thirok pleaded with the tribe to be allowed to join her if he would be back before the seasonal floods.
He was allowed to leave to his surprise and soon set off with Grenka, serving as her guide untill they reached unfamiliar territory for both of them. Fortunately Grenka was an experienced traveler already and took the lead from there on while sharing her stories with Thirok, who in turn told her about his own people. The journey was actually rather uneventful in the first few days and Thirok was almost disappointed at first but they happened across a wild beast or two and a group of gnoll raiders who tried to rob them of what little supplies they had. Now Thirok was certainly not defenseless, as he is a capable geomancer and a decent fighter with or without a weapon, but he was in awe at Grenka's ferocity in battle even without using her fire abilities thankful that they were on the same side. He learned a lot during their journey, about the world, and about salamanders and their...biology, as he and Grenka got intimately acquainted during the return trip. He would have loved to keep traveling with her, but to his regret he had to go back to his duties again and part ways, though Grenka promised to return one day for him as she had become quite fond of him.
It would be a while before she returned so he took that time to train his eventual replacement so he could leave with the tribe's blessing when the time came. As it turned out his tribe was also quite eager to hear stories about what lies beyond the horizon and they want him to return with many more stories of distant places and adventures, but perhaps none were looking forward to it as much as Thirok himself...
