Birthday gift I got from kamchiikartist. Lucky!
She once again surprised me with an unusual choice of TF and a great way of showing it. I think there's much intrigue about what's inside the box. What do you think?
Might as well blogpost about my birthday in general here.
Since it was my 30th I really wanted it to be special. Unable to arrange anything crazy in advance IRL I settled for commissioning and e-begging in hopes of people coming together to shower me in signs of appreciation. Obviously not everyone can/has time to draw or write but everyone can throw a pic of mine into memegenerator.meme or throw together a 'top 5 worst rubberfrills pics' and @ me to say 'hey, I acknowledge your existence'. A kind of this massive rubberfrills celebration.
Clearly, that's not quite what happened; I understand my prominence in the TF sphere has waned quite a bit due to me being too busy with being the king of balloon fetish but I also see concepts very clearly inspired by my work in other people's comms so there's still some gas in the tank I'm sure.
I say that, but is it really fair of me to whine like that? Redflare, an artist who is very important to me took the time to draw a whole sequence. Other people also made awesome art for me: slemka, nikkichan, matl (who I had no idea was even a fan so that was a nice surprise), chubinku made an animation, an anonymous fan shared a folder of private comms which I wishhh I could show you, Elisabetlis walked through pouring rain to get to the lamest party in town (watching me and my friend try to set up ryujinx for 30 minutes). I even got a couple of stories as gifts — how rare is that? Not to mention the OIL PAINTING?! A literal family heirloom from now on. And just the regular 'Happy Birthday's from people online - I saw them. Clearly there ARE people who care.
All of these add up to a very impressive booty. A famous footballer once said 'Your expectations are your problems' and I think this rings true in this case. The more I think about this the more I realise that even the biggest names would struggle to set up a big birthday celebration like I wanted. I once commissioned a writer who was tangentially familiar with western inanimate TF and when I mentioned my name he said 'Hm? Never heard of them'. In the grand scheme of things I am still very niche. And that's okay!
The lesson today is to stop making up stuff and getting upset when it doesn't happen (my lifelong problem).
Also, cry less and draw more.
