Finished up this little headshot commission for ani_scarlet_crimson of her lovely little character, Cobalt Dream. I really liked doing this one because of the classic little liminal spaces background and vibe- and I love stuff like that so this was a really fun one to do! :D PLUS ALSO character design was also really fun to draw- I always like blue characters and Cobalt just has a very cute design so it was enjoyable to render out this fluffy little dude.

Somehow, the "distortion-filtered background" makes me think of children books.
And I mean this in a good, cute, pretty way. It looks so "soft", light... happy... carefree. I immediately have to think of book illustrations for very young kids and it's beautiful.
Hard contrast: The obviously scary character!
Though it's a fluffy one, the fact that the eyes are anywhere BUT in the right place... scares and amuses me! ^^ I really have "Beetlejuice" in my head right now... they also played with weird designs and placed the eyes in various places.
Anyway, I also love how soft and fluid you've drawn the fur, hair and the feathers. Especially the feathers look really good!
And yeah... it's not really a "scary" character... it's a cute and interesting one. ^^
One small suggestion if you allow me: The sparkle stars (which can be seen all over the picture) all have the same size. It would add a bit of variety and dynamics if they had different sizes. This is my opinion. ^^
I've used those stars in my artworks several times as well and always tried to uphold two "rules" with them:
1. Don't use too many
2. Variety in size
As I said before... that's only a small suggestion.
^^

Thank you- I personally found the character cute from the ref sheet that was sent but I may just have distorted tastes. Very liminal-space/dreamcore type character. To be fair with the sparkles, there's only really ten unless you mean something else. But those were just brushes where the particle size couldn't really be changed, just how they were dispersed. I could probably open it up in another window and scale it down manually. But I will keep your advice in mind for future work! Thank you
Nothing cooler than "distorted tastes", he he he he! ^^ Everything "normal" is rather boring, right?
By the way... here's a little teaser for you... this is what I'm currently working on... easy to guess:
