Mastergodai once told me that he admits to "Rascals" and its overall storyline not being all THAT concrete. I mean, he started this webcomic series in 2009, right? Yet he had Quick and Jen's parents' story about their past be set in the 90s, pulling a "just be set with the times" thing or whatever you wanna call it, that South Park, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and American Dad have done with their own episodes in the past.
Still, he's NOT trying to create a confusing lore to his own webcomic series or anything like that.

Not having a concrete storyline would explain a lot, but that still doesn't make it any less grating. Seeing plotlines come and go with rewrites happening that contradict previously established into or statements just drives me up the wall, hell I'm still not completely over Jin somehow still being alive despite all the death flags.
So question. Can it not be true that she was a caring mother at one point? Chrissy never noticed anything when she was a kid. If Amanda's mom had been abusive toward Amanda from the start there would be noticeable evidence.
I believe Amanda mentioned her mother changed after Amanda's father died.

I suppose it is possible, but given what we were shown here...

...I highly doubt it, it also explains why Chrissy never noticed.
Yeah she did change, but with what these pages set up it sounds like she became even worse.

Honestly I'm not seeing the disconnect there.
Amanda and Chrissy were friends as children.
Amanda's father leaves and her mother starts down a path of addiction and substance abuse. (Of which we know alcohol to be one.)
Amanda's mother begins to date scumbags to use them to take care of her while pawning off stuff that her sister sends from Japan.
Amanda goes through puberty and some of the guys her mom is dating are taking more interest in her.
Amanda's mom defends her at first, but over time starts to resent her and becomes abusive toward her.
Chrissy at this point is entangled with Cody and not noticing the problems Amanda is dealing with.
Amanda resents Chrissy for not noticing.
Amanda fucks Cody to piss Chrissy off.
Amanda works at Waggles which her mother takes as much of her money as she can.
Amanda and Chrissy are on bad terms until she shows up at Chrissy's house after being hurt by her mother. (Notable slap print on her face)
Present day events of the comic.
The only real discrepancy I see is the change that Amanda's father left them instead of died.

Most of the timeline you described lines up event-wise, but some of it doesn't seem like it lines up. Amanda appears to be a preteen/younger teen in Not Being There and was already being abused by that time, from the looks of her in that page it didn't seem like she had hit puberty yet. You claim that the abuse started after she hit puberty despite it appearing to have started before then. Which leads me to my next line of disconnect which is Jane's characterization, it seems like she's being rewritten from abusive POS to tragic fall from grace.
As for Daniel it could be possible that both happened, that he left Jane and died later on.

I agree that with Daniel it could be that he left, then died after which lead to Jane getting worse and worse.
But as for how Amanda looked in the abuse pic before. (Shrugs) puberty doesn't hit you all at once. I take it as once she started showing maturity in the chest area is when the guys started going for her instead of her mother. Which would be when the abuse started. There's no given age, so we have to go with an age range. She wore glasses before then and is still wearing them in her flashback meme panel there.
My point is that you may be thinking about it too hard. Trying to find issues where there really shouldn't be. As for Jane's characterization clarity and explanation can make things and people seem different from how we first perceive them.

A fair point, but it still just doesn't sit right.
I'm very much left-brained, I analyze and focus on facts when they are presented. Whenever I see something that appears to contradict previous facts it sets off the "wait a minute!" alarm in my mind. But it seems like we're at an impasse so I'm just gonna say that we agree to disagree.

I just realised this: mastergodai is good at redeeming characters. Like, now, everyone will forgive Mandy as her past comes to light. Because now we can blame her mom for Mandy being what she became.
And then, we'll forgive Mandy's mother, because mastergodai will give us a bigger villain!!! And you know the best part? Despite knowing this, we'll still go along with it!!π
And that is solely because, mastergodai is one hell of an author, besides being an awesome artist. There aren't many out there, who can keep people hooked to their every whim regarding their story. So, hats off to you!!!
