You are so glad that you've gotten a little free time, finally able to jump on a voice call and catch up with your friend, its been, what, 3 months since you last had a chance to properly speak with one another, swapping stories with one another about what youve been up to, about all the little triumphs,

"I've finally been able to focus upon my writing again",

All the little tribulations,

"I've had to replace my bloody sink, clumsy bugger that i am, I let the pan drop and cracked it",

From big important changes,

"I'm finally moving in the fall, I'll only be an hour away so I may be able to swing by on occasion"

To little hearfelt moments,

"I'm so glad we are getting to chat again, I would have hated if we were to drift apart"

you share it all, and as the two of you continue to chat, the day streching into night, you notice that you've been sharing less and listening more, that you've been hanging off their every word, that you've been slipping into a very familiar headspace, that they have become the object of your focus, so when they notice your dwindling participation and decide to ask,

"Hey! Are you still listening?"

You can't help but respond, your voice slowed, the syllables elongated, sounding a little spaced out,

"Yeeessssss."

And they finally realise what has happened.
