Yep! Ash, the main hero! You all saw this coming, didn't you? :3
Author's Preface: Before I write this, I have never watched the Pokemon TV show since Orange Islands. I haven't seen any of the movies past Tower of the Unown. I know very little about the journeys of Ash or the adventures he and his companions have embarked on. So, if I get anything wrong, please let me know.

Ash spearheaded the attack on Galactic's ritual, making it as far as Spear Pillar. Unfortunately, he was too late to stop it, and was changed into a morph with the others.
Ash has never wanted to deal with true responsiblity, however. He'd always wanted a backseat and let someone else make the decisions. Because he is eventually forced to confront it, Cyrus' power forced him to confront it, transforming him into a Riolu
As a fighting type, Ash has developed instinctual fighting skills, increased reflexes and strength. Punching through concrete, ice and metal now comes easy to him without breaking fingers. It is his later training with Riley, however, that eventually makes him master the power of being an aura guardian.

Rather than it's adult state of Lucario, yes.
The main point is Ash wants to avoid his destiny as the Chosen One (to be fair, being the only one who can save the world every time is... rather aggravating), he wants to be able to do his own thing and his own dreams.
Of course, now that the entire world has changed, this isn't something he's going to be able to do. He's got to accept that. Riley and Lucario are going to help him do so.
