Book 1: The Fear Ripper
Chapter 2: Two glimmers of hope
Part 6: Hectic Workouts
At the top of the stairs, the group could see the large enclosure where a wide path led to the cubic building that served as a school, while the exterior served as training for young dragons as well as smaller moles that fought dummies in close combat or with ranged weapons. The mannequins were placed towards the walls of the enclosure so that those who took the central path would not risk receiving an attack.
The group was quickly noticed by the young recruits, dragons and moles, who looked at them with admiration. His training supervisors let their young students look up to them to give them a boost of energy and motivation before getting them back to focusing on their training.
A white dragon, with perfectly symmetrical black tribal symbols at the shoulders and which went up to the neck and ended on the forehead bypassing its eyes, approached Terrador and bowed its head in greeting. The latter had a few scars on his face and torso and was almost as massive as the green and brown dragon. The wise man of the earth did the same, as equals, then they stood up.
“General Mangall, thank you for having us.” Terrador greeted humbly.
"That's normal, Master Terrador. So, great heroes need training? Shouldn't they be the ones training us?" The great white dragon laughed, wondering why such famous dragons needed training.
"It's generally complicated. Following the reconstitution of the world, the power that Spyro and Cynder had to use was considerable to the point that they had very little power left." Briefly explained the sage of the earth in front of the military dragon who had a weak language, surely due to his years spent in the Warfang army.
"Ha Well, you surprise me! It's not with cement and bricks that we can achieve such a reconstruction of the entire world!" Replied General Mangall, laughing with a very big, carrying voice.
It surprised the group to have such a range of voice to the point of bringing Ember out of her thoughts which were still occupied by the future Spike to come. The pink dragoness had remained discreet even though she had listened to everything her friends and Terrador said about the ancient sages.
"I have reserved some training dummies for you. They are at your disposal there! Follow me!" The white dragon continued, starting to walk towards the building, shifting to the left.
Five models were free between a small group of young dragons the age of Flame and Spyro when they began their adventures as a duo, and a group of young moles practicing throwing their spears. The heroes settled down, greeting the adjacent group, some intimidated and others admiring. The young dragons and the smaller adolescent moles watched from the corner of their eyes and sometimes stared intently because the arrival of the heroes had just brightened their day.
“I think they’re watching us Hihi.” Laughed Ember who couldn't deny liking being in the middle of attention.
“And still, that’s nothing.” Cynder replied, remembering the day she returned to Warfang with Spyro after the two heroes saved the world.
"I think it's normal that they admire a dragoness like you..." Ashes confessed to the black dragoness with a blush who smiled at him and lovingly licked his cheek.
“Thank you my dear, but wait until they get to know you, you are much more admirable than me.” Cynder responded tenderly, receiving a warm nudge on hers.
The two dragons in love looked at each other and Flame began to encourage his love by clinging to him.
"It's going to be okay, handsome. We're going to train together." He nestled his head under Spyro's chin and embraced him with his wings.
“Thank you Flamy darling.” He replied, moved to see his red dragon supporting him whatever the situation.
"Okay, I'll let you practice! Don't hesitate if you need to!" Concludes the great white military dragon before returning to supervise all training.
The group took their place, each in front of a mannequin. Spyro and Cynder in the center alongside their other half while Ember placed herself at one end next to her little brother Flame. Terrador sat a little behind even though he remained close to the little gray dragoness Ashes. Cynder noticed well how the fire sage acted with his beauty and saw in them exactly the same thing as what she had seen between Spyro and Ignitus, a father-daughter bond in this case. This warmed the heart of the black dragoness who had not known such a bond and found it important that everyone had the same kind of emotional feelings. However, Cynder was far too lonely to feel like she needed such a connection. Ashes feelings towards her fulfilling her enough.
"Master Terrador, do you have any tips for making my fire blast more powerful?" Ashes instinctively asked the dragon whom she was beginning to see as a mentor given his temperament close to hers.
"Well young Ashes, I feel a lot of your anger which remains controllable when the fire in you boils. Only, this power is dispersed throughout your body. Concentrate it in your stomach..." Terrador began, looking at the young gray dragoness who was starting to get stressed.
"My... My anger...? N... No... It's better not..." Ashes hesitated while Cynder licked his cheek.
"It's okay, sweetheart. I'm here." Cynder whispered in his ear, making him shudder to hear her voice so slow and soft.
"I know that voluntarily bringing out your anger to use it is scary, young dragoness. We are afraid of losing control and hurting those we care about. But the sooner you work on it, the sooner you will be able to control your anger. " The sage of the earth who had already gone through this stage explained wisely.
“It's not really that... It's that... the last time I let out my anger, I scared all my friends... and I found myself... alone. ..” Confessed the gray dragoness who was starting to tremble.
"Well, they're morons! And with what you know about my past, do you really think I'm going to judge you, Ash, darling?" Cynder asked him lovingly.
"N...No but..." Ashes began, before being interrupted by the earth sage.
"Listen to me young Ashes, Warfang is not perfect, but with everything this city has been through, no citizen will judge you. Look at them admiring Cynder's presence despite her dark past as a "Enemy of Warfang when she wasn't herself. And if ever one of them denigrates you, may the ancestors protect that person from my wrath!" The earth sage finished, striking the ground with his ball-shaped tail which made the earth tremble in a radius of two meters with a protective air towards the gray dragoness.
"Okay... I trust you..." Ashes replied, reassured by the words of his beautiful Cynder and the dragon who had become his mentor, and closed his eyes to concentrate.
"Good... Bring all your anger to one place: your stomach... Visualize your enemies, imagine seeing them doing what you hate the most..." Continued the sage of the earth while analyzing Ashes frowning, clenching his fangs and clawing the ground under the benevolent gaze of his beautiful Cynder.
"...Don't spread it through your muscles to get revenge. Revenge is bad and destructive. Gather this emotion to protect..." He explained to the gray dragoness who was starting to bend forward too much like a cat spitting.
Cynder approached her by putting herself behind her back and placed her two paws on Ashes' shoulders to put her upright, which relaxed her beauty who recognized the gentle contact of the paws of the black purple dragoness. But her nostrils smoked much more than before she corrected the two wise men the day before. Cynder's touch had allowed him to concentrate without Ashes losing his anger.
"...Perfect! Now bring it back up your throat and let it out like a scream!" Terrador finished.
Ashes did so and opened her eyes, staring at the mannequin in front of her, her gaze filled with volcanic inferno. It wasn't a jet of fire that came out from between her fangs as she expected, but a flaming projectile that mixed fire, almost molten rock. This power had surprised Ashes herself so much that she was thrown backwards to land against Cynder's chest who grabbed her, as if she had anticipated what was going to happen. Cynder ended up on her back with her beauty lying on top of her, her back against the stomach of the larger dragoness, who covered her with its imposing wings as she curled into a ball on Ashes.
On the side of the projectile, it grazed the earth which formed a trail which burned the grass due to the heat and exploded the dummy with a deafening detonation, while a small geyser of flame formed before dissipating. The glowing wooden pieces of the mannequin's structure flew in all directions and Terrador used his power to form pillars of rock that rose out of the ground, in front of anyone too close, as a shield while he protected Spyro, Flame, Ember and Sparx interposing with his wings and his whole body.
Outside, passers-by weren't that worried thanks to the small wall that protected the exterior of the training school, designed for this kind of thing. Once calm had returned, those who were further away ran towards the group to make sure everyone was okay while a team of healers came out of the barracks. Ashes opened her eyes a little dazed and turned to Cynder who was holding her.
"Cynder! Cynder, are you okay???" Ashes panicked as Cynder was just knocked backwards while hugging her.
“Very well, don’t worry my darling. But you?” She worried, releasing his grip on her as she stood up.
“I...I’m sorry!!!” The gray dragoness replied in panic as she withdrew from Cynder and backed away from her friends, seeing herself as a danger and was ready to run away to avoid hurting them.
The black dragoness stood up while the rest of the group was in shock and complete incomprehension, not knowing what had just happened. Cynder stared at Ashes who was walking away from them as if she were a monster and the former Empress of Heaven thought she saw herself for a moment, knowing what the smaller dragoness was planning to do as she looked into her frightened eyes.
"Young Ashes, everything is okay! There are no injuries! These things happen!" Tried to reassure Terrador
But that wasn't enough, because in Ashes' eyes, everyone who had seen the scene was staring at her like a monster due to a memory that was intertwined with the present moment. Because in reality, they looked at the state of the model and the one who had provoked the attack with great astonishment and admiration. The gray dragoness opened her wings and made a jump to take off and flee far away, but a black mist quickly threw itself on her in flight, completely engulfing her to form a ball of darkness. This sphere of shadow fell to the ground and rolled for a few meters until it stopped and disappeared to reveal Cynder tackling Ashes to the ground.
“You’re not going to run away like that and you’re going to listen to me, darling!” Cynder began, loudly proclaiming her feelings for Ashes, pressing on his shoulders to prevent him from leaving at the risk of never seeing her again because she had become so frightened.
"I have already experienced this scene and my escape took me into a pirate's jail and then into the cursed place that is the well of souls! I know today that I should have stayed and that's what You're going to do it! We need you... I NEED you, my darling!" The black dragoness continued, putting all her weight on Ashes who was both in tears at what had just happened and moved by Cynder's words as well as being intimidated by their posture.
"C....Cynd'..." Without realizing it, she was being kissed intensely by Cynder in the same way that Flame had confided to her during her first kiss with Spyro.
A delicious taste spread across the gray dragoness' tongue and entire mouth combined with a warm breath that spread between her fangs. Ashes only realized that she and Cynder were currently sharing their very first kiss, which instantly calmed the smaller dragoness whose heart was beating at a rate she didn't think was possible, breathing through her nostrils because she was so intimidated by the entirety of Cynder's slender, slender body on top of hers.
Cynder stopped the kiss and pulled back helping him up and staring at each other lovingly, Ashes still in pleasant shock. The two dragonesses had their cheeks and eyes covered with tears because this situation was a real emotional elevator between the fear of losing the other and the official declaration of their love. The badass and strong black dragoness was currently crying for the first time in front of Ashes, having come close to never seeing the gray dragoness again. Flame and Spyro looked at them very tenderly and leaned against each other nostalgically, passing their wings over each other's backs, remembering their declaration of love and their own first kiss. The two dragonesses said to themselves that now, the step had been taken and that their relationship was now revealed, they would no longer need to hold back the desire for contact that they had for each other.
“Hey, it’s not too early!” Said a voice that broke the silence, while Ember stepped forward.
"What do you mean?? You... You knew about it?" Ashes questioned while blushing, thinking she had been very discreet.
"Everyone knew! Right guys?" Replied the pink dragoness, smiling at the male couple who nodded affirmatively.
“We could see that you had gotten closer, but we didn’t want to break the spell.” Flame explained, smiling under the stifled laughter of Cynder who hid her tender expression behind her wing.
“It had to be you who told us, but we were wondering since we arrived here, when would you two kiss!” Spyro smiled with a more than happy look.
The two dragonesses looked at each other, Ashes still red while Cynder had the sweetest look that she almost never showed. It was then that a loud, familiar voice was heard.
"By the elders of Warfang! What was that?!" General Mangall spoke loudly while Ashes looked sorry as if she had done something stupid, Cynder placing her protective wing over her, ready to give this white dragon a party.
"I can't believe it..." he said, all disheveled, while Cynder started to growl and her friends were ready to intervene.
"I...I'm..." Ashes tried to start apologizing before being interrupted by the white dragon's next sentence.
"...how I missed that!!!" He finished while Cynder, Ashes and the rest of the group of heroes were surprised by the general's unexpected end to the sentence.
"Little one! You absolutely have to show us this!" He continued, staring at the young gray dragoness with an admiring look.
“In… In show??” Asked Ashes who didn't understand what was happening, still a little panicked.
She had just pulverized a mannequin, damaged the floor of a training area and disturbed everyone at the risk of hurting them and she was asked to do it again. The great white dragon calmed down and explained in more detail.
"Ha, it's true, you're not from here. Every month, I organize a competition where everyone is welcome. Each person takes turns to present one or two attacks, of their choice, on a model in front of a jury, of which I am one, and a lot of citizens of Warfang, if not the entire city! The jury generally relies on the public to allow participants to try to get the best score to win the title of Warfang's greatest warrior for the month." The great white dragon finished to the cheers of those around the group, especially Ashes and Cynder.
“You absolutely have to try your luck!” The voice of a mole rang out in the small crowd.
"Yes! It seemed like an incredible attack" replied another voice which was that of a small yellow dragoness in the front row.
"But too much! Cynder, help us get your girlfriend involved!" Almost begged yet another voice that had no judgment on their revealed relationship while the hubbub followed one after another to almost beg Ashes to participate in their next competition.
Cynder looked at Ashes who dried her tears in the face of so much admiration because she had let go of her anger. The black dragoness smiled at her and cajoled her to calm her down, being the star of the group for the first time and she wasn't used to that. She looked at the trio Flame, Spyro and Ember who raised their thumbs in the air to tell her to do it then her beautiful Cynder who gave her an affirmative nod. She quickly calmed down as events had not turned out at all as she feared. It was even the opposite that happened, people who admired his strength and power. But still under emotion, she asked Terrador to come closer to her, because her voice was becoming a little feverish in the face of everything that had just happened in barely two minutes, telling herself that she would never have enough range to counter the still-present hubbub of cheers from his new fans.
"M...Master Terrador... Can you tell them... that I accept...?" asked the young gray dragoness with emotion.
“With great pleasure young dragoness!” He replied, standing up.
He suddenly brandished his wings, puffing out his chest, and his voice pierced the cheers of the crowd.
“Warfang, listen to me!” There was silence, knowing that the answer was going to be given.
“I Terrador, guardian of the earth and guardian of the young dragon Ashes here, announce that she will participate in the next competition for the best attack of the month!” Declared Terrador who had also just announced that Ashes was now his protégé.
The crowd roared with joy and began chanting the name "Ashes" to loudly proclaim that she had earned their respect.
"Come on, guys and girls, get back to your training! You'll need it with such competition!" Announced the white-scaled general to calm the crowd.
Terrador waved the healers over as they moved aside to allow them to pass in the direction of the earthbender and the new female couple.
"Thank you for being there for us. Take care of Ashes and Cynder, make sure they are not weakened or injured." Terrador asked gently as he looked at the new couple.
"Yes Master Terrador. Come, please." The orange healing dragoness with a mole sidekick asked, looking at the two dragonesses.
Ashes and Cynder followed them, standing back near the building, while remaining outside to still be in the group's field of vision. The healers offered them a drink made from medicinal plants to allow them to regain their strength and began to examine them to treat any possible physical injuries.
Terrador and Ashes exchanged an affectionate and caring look while the earth sage looked at a still smoking piece of projectile fired by Ashes that he had furtively seized. His resistance, linked to the earth, made him feel only a medium heat which gradually disappeared, whereas if it was another dragon, the sensation of heat would go as far as a slight burn. The sage of the earth looked in more detail at this debris, sniffing it a little.
"Lherzolite! A rare igneous rock... Could it be...?" He closed his paw, carefully guarding this piece of rock rejected by Ashes, looking at the young gray dragoness with admiration.

The great white dragon finished to the cheers of those around the group, especially Ashes and Cynder.
