Atmospheric Deployment Platforms, often referred to as ADPs, are the beginning of the transition of clone space faring capital warships from the low tidal forces of vacuum to suspended operation capability over a gravitational surface. Consequently, being such an early and unrefined form of this capability, the ADP had a very strong and extensive superstructure, making the craft extremely heavy. The ADP's superstructure involves heavy implementation of bulkhead plating and solid sheathing. Although these designs were intended primarily to give the vehicle a high tensile strength, they also make the ADP a milestone in armoring.
ADPs are strictly stellar warships, not capable of traveling interstellar distances without running out of fuel or killing all of its crew from the radiation of said fuel. ADPs are designed to tour for only a few weeks before the crew must abandon the ship. Therefore an ADP can only provide support on a handful of separate planets before being retired. ADPs are capable of being quickly constructed and deployed with a reasonable supply of resources from a planetary surface thanks to their vtol capability.
The topside carapace, the heaviest and largest solid plate of the ADP, gives the craft ample protection from space based threats above whilst hovering over a planetary surface. The carapace's strength is utilized to hold critical components, evenly split between fuel and cargo.
The ADP was designed to hold large amounts of enforcements and deploy them quickly. Crafts can be deployed by means of the eight enclosed hanger bays or through one of the two magnetic acceleration deployment tubes. These deployment tubes provide clearance for any vehicles thinner than 20 meters. The ADP largely was used for ferrying slow moving drop ships directly over a land zone, giving them protection for the orbital descent. The ADP also acted as a quick gateway to deploy fighters into airforce roles. Shortranges are the largest fighter type capable of being stored and deployed from inside the warship. Longranges are able to be carried on external hardpoints around the body of the planetship, although such tactics were rare considering the independent capabilities of the fighters.
The ADP has three massive vertical fusion engines and two fusion forward and reverse engines. This large array of propulsion gives the craft a tremendous vertical acceleration capability of 163.28 meters per second per second and accelerate forward or backward 47.62 meters per second per second.
