Beckie, head of the financial department of the biggest tech business in the country, didn't have friends. She didn't need them. She was powerful and sexy and better than everyone else. Why would she need lesser women to hang out with or waste her time?
Besides, Beckie had burned enough bridges to not have much of a chance at friendship. You don't get to be head honcho by being nice. Kindness is for the weak, like that pathetic poodle from the art department who tried to talk shit about her last year. She deserved for Beck to tell the office that she had wet herself at the Christmas party. It may not have been totally true, but it kept that girl in her place.
Beckie looked out her office window and sipped at her dry red. It was good to be in control. And no one was going to take that from her.
