Manuals intimidate me, I'm a believer that if I can't figure out how to use something by just using it, then either I'm an idiot or the people who use it are geniuses. Why, just a couple weeks ago I learned there's an option on my camera to change the light exposure and a way to turn off the flash!
But I definitely agree with cameras. Those small icons aren't always helpful, and they pack so much stuff in for the photo aficionados when the camera seems to do a good enough job with its auto settings. That should be the ideal setup right there -- worry about one button for casual photographers, offer advanced options to those who seek it -- but I wish the camera would maybe physically transform so casual people wouldn't have to see a bunch of buttons they're never going to press. Car radios are even more of a mystery to me. You ask me to set the clock, I press the "Clock" button, it does nothing, and there's an arcane set of commands to follow that neglect to mention a very important step in order to do it right.
