I took a look at your gallery, and saw the German plates, the D on the beetle... and of course your avatar name and pictures sounds German ^^
There may be some large wooden buildings like this in France, but only in moutain, like in the Alpes, Vosges (near the Schwarzwald ;), Pyrenees or Massif Central... But they're really, really rare. I never saw a large one like that in France.
