It's the human version of Derpy Hooves. I guess the fact she's a mail carrior is off putting. Fisk did a collage of all the MLP ponies as humans. It was really great, check is gallery.

Well, second best. Braids is still my no one fave (a throwaway design that was so striking she eventually became a main character for six books in MTG). The internet gave this one life of it's own though, and it's cool how the creators responded with the cameos~

One of the hoses that appears in the new my little pony. She appears only in the background, and canonically there's nothing about her. Fans have gone crazy because she had goggley eyes in the first episode, and have created an extensive backstory for her.

Actually, as of the 15th episode (Feeling Pinkie Keen) she's canonically walleyed, thanks to the huge fan reaction.

Well yeah, from 15 on she's got the derp eyes, but that's the only thing the creators have confirmed thus far. The status of being the mail girl, and having a child, and even having mental problems is still all the fans.

Well, there is some word of god that Derpy is Ditzy Doo, the pony that went north to retrieve birds from the south.

No the mail/delivery thing seems right on the money because she was the one dropping things on Pinky and Twilight while trying to deliver/move items.

Specifically, it's just a background pony, whose eyes were drawn in a way that was either a joke from one of the show's animators or by accident.

The fans took notice and Derpy Hooves was born.
She became a "Where's Waldo"-like sensation ever since.

She doesn't always have them. I crossed them to be goofy, but putting them at full derp mode looked too silly on the human form.

There are a few derpy cameos later on in the season where derpy's eyes are only slightly derped. Just enough that you have to be focus your attention on her to notice. There are also moments where her eyes are fine. The fan art always has derped eyes but the good artists know how to give it just the right touch.

I love the fact that the phrase "full derp mode" has now been uttered...er...typed into existence.

Kinda annoyed by "Derpy Hooves", they missed an opportunity. I dated a girl with Cerebral Palsy, and her physical handicap didn't alter her mental capacity in the slightest. Feel the pony thing has reinforced a bad stereotype that CP equates to a mental handicap. :/

Not having a go at you here, just trying to remind folk that because she looks a certain way (or two ;P) doesn't mean she's actually intellectually impaired at all.

well technically the show never said if her mental state was altered or not. after all, the fans have made so many different back stories for her, and the show hasn't properly introduced her quite yet! so she could be a normal pony. besides, from what i've gathered she just seems like a clumsy pony :3
but if they do have an episode based off derpy, i hope they do portray her well!

This wasn't 'they picked the horse to match the cart' - this was 'they picked the cart to match the horse.' Derpy was a non-name background flash for like... 10 seconds... but everyone on the internet fell in love with her, and, apparently, in a stroke of marketing... something, the ... whatevers... put her in the show. To maximize the effect, they pretty much went with verbatim to what the net described.

When was it announced that Derpy has "Cerebral Palsy"? For all we know she could have a glass eye, like Thom Yorke.

She is the most positive unintentional character ever latched onto by a fandom. I've seen her portrayed as (1) normal gal with bad eyes, (b) mentally challenged yet loving and devoted single mother, and © "space cadet". In every single one, she works hard at her job, is friendly to a fault, and is genuinely sweet.

I never thought Derpy or Bubbles, or whatever they called her in the studio, was retarded or anything.

I just saw her as a bit clumsy. I think they even said she was drunk (some of the animators) and that's why she has the bubbles as her mark haha. =)
