warning!!! spoilery rain world lore dump ahead!!!
this all takes place far away from the events of rain world. eleven amber beads, an older, eccentric iterator fellow, frequently created and experimented with purposed organisms. so much in fact, that the others thought he might be a little obsessed and/or coo coo crazy! especially he synthesized his most prized creation, a little pink slugpup he named "companion." he raised this slugpup to young adulthood. he sustained it, played with it, talked to it, and even let it wander around his can sometimes. never outside though! that would be a bit dangerous for the little guy after all, and eleven amber beads couldn't possibly be without his favourite companion! in any case, things eventually went wrong, as they tend to do in rain world. you see, eleven amber beads had been experimenting with the rot in secret in hopes of discovering an alternative way to ascend. naturally, something catastrophically bad happened- he had, by mistake, created a new strain of the rot- the rust. it was dark and ruddy red in colour. what made it especially dangerous though, was that it corroded and ate through metal like it was nothing. soon, at a rapid pace, eleven amber beads was going to be consumed entirely the rust. it had already eaten through most of his communication arrays, and his entire can was next. selfishly, he kept his companion with him in his final moments, during which he inscribed his final words and warning onto a data pearl. he gave the pearl to the companion, and instructed it to journey to the nearest of his brethren- and give it to them. the can soon collapsed on the companion. shortly after the collapse, the rust would eat away the foundations, until nothing was left- and then it would gradually dry up and wither away without any metals to consume.
my theoretical rain world campaign would start shortly after the aimless (formerly the companion) wriggles out of the collapsed structure of his creator, strangely unharmed. thankfully the rust could only eat metal, and it ignored living creatures for the most part. because of this, all of eleven amber beads' creations would be let loose into the world, to mingle with the other more natural populace. eleven amber beads' purposed organisms would be friendly towards aimless, and would either leave him alone or even defend him from dangerous things! anyway, aimless would have to take the trek to the nearest iterator, bored of satisfaction, and deliver the pearl. i have written dialogue for when this would happen, but i feel like i shouldn't post it here. it might be a bit too long, hehe!
i've also toyed with the idea of aimless having pheromones in his blood, which would briefly stun a creature and/or make them docile for a little while if he bled a considerable amount. the duration and effect of his pheromones would depend on which creature inhales them. i'm not sure if i want to make this canon, but i sorta like the idea!
