A piece of art I decided to do for my latest Thursday Prompt story. Once I got to the end of writing I knew I needed to draw this. I don't usually do quick digital painting like this, but I decided to give it another shot last night. Took me about 2.5 hours from the sketch to the finished piece. The sketch was actually the part of it that took longer than the color. Trying to get this slouching posture from behind ended up being quite the challenge (and it was quite difficult to find references for). Overall, I'm a lot happier with much of the background than I am over the character. I just wasn't sure how to exactly get all of that white fur to blend into the background. Though on the other hand... he is an arctic fox based kitsune and artic foxes do tend to stick out when not surrounded by snow (at least in their winter coat).

Absolutely stunning in its atmosphere and scenic beauty!
That dim northern sun just over the horizon fills this world with soft colors and shadows, underscoring the sense of isolation and wilderness.
Seeing the arctic fox with no clothes, but with the glasses on, sets up a highly unusual circumstance for the character, an intriguing combination of civilization and the natural state.

Thank you.
Initially I was attempting to actually portray the view from the hills above my apartment. Except that when I drew this is was already night so I couldn't actually go out to take reference shots. I think it worked out though as instead it became a kind of idealized version since the hills and valleys don't actually fold like this so seeing the buildings on each side of the water through the hills like this is impossible.
The sun was actually the first part of the piece I did and really helped me set the tone for the colors of the rest of it. The blues fading into oranges and yellows created this beautiful effect on the distant mountains which I carried through showing the coldness of the night being being stripped away very slowly by the warmth of the morning light.

Refining phenomena into idealized versions of themselves is one of art's chief functions!
Thank you for your elaboration on your creative choices, and the descriptions of that breathtakingly scenic area -- it was evocative enough to match the beauty of the picture.
It is a great feeling to see the passion and deep thought poured into its creation radiate from an image like that.
