Normally I'd criticize overly glaring an image, but here I think it works, it creates an emotional reliability (for me not knowing the correct term) where we get an idea how the situation must be feeling to the young girl, scared, confused, not able to get a clear picture, only knowing something is happening and someone is having to defend her. It works great.
