Alright, taking a break from my Extinctioners commissions, I'd like to introduce a character that I've been working on for some time now and I am REALLY excited for the way this one turned out! I had this one designed after my lemur sona, Maxx, with certain aspects of him being filled out a bit in order to match the character more. I didn't really want something that was entirely a robo version of my sona, so I opted for both. By the way, if you haven't read Ani-droids yet, GO DO SO! It's amazing!
This is Gats, my anidroid set in
rickgriffin 's Ani-droids universe. I was so enthralled by the book and it's tense but heart-felt story that I felt the need to create a character of my own, and I thought
fcsimba was perfect for the job since they were offering up commissions on reference sheets. And MAN, they did not disappoint, and I have to say: A big shout out to fcsimba who was not only eager to take up designing Gats, but was so very supportive of his character and the story I am working on with him! ^^ I can't thank them enough for all the support and I highly recommend you give fcsimba's page a view and shoot them some commissions as they are really wonderful to work with!
It's going to be a bit tough to really explain much on this character without spoiling anything from the book, so I'll keep this one as brief as I can.
Gats here is a custodes class anidroid, a type of enforcer/guardsman class of robot that is used for law enforcement and government issue work among other things. Naturally, Gats is a police officer, but he is more of a lightly built version: Being only 5' 4" tall compared to the usual 6' and up models, Gats isn't meant for heavy law enforcement but rather light peace keeping work which is why he was originally stationed in a small Pennsylvanian resort town. On top of this, he is an uncommon 'male' model which also makes him more prone to overheating due to having much smaller cooling tanks in his abdominal region instead of housing them in the breasts as normal 'female' anidroids do. He is also unique in that he's a ringtail lemur, which is also uncommon among the usual animal types of robots and is considered relatively high maintenance due to the intricate design work on his simian-like feet and facial features. By all intense and purposes, Gats is meant to be a welcoming high-class security guard who handles minor skirmishes with very few arrests.
This was why it came as such a shock to the police department and citizens alike when orders mandated from high up had Gats go through a refit which gave him stronger artificial muscles and upgraded weapons systems for more heavy duty operations. He was rerouted farther down south to a new precinct in Texas where he now resides due to the growing unrest of what is believed to be an ani-droid corrupting virus in the region. Despite being programmed with all the latest details in advanced law enforcement, he is a fish-out-of-water rookie compared to the more heavier, and more experienced, forms of robots that have been rotated to the state.
Personality wise, he is relatively pretty standard among anidroid officers under the Behavior Code, but given his initial background he was programmed to be very charming and polite to fit his small and very welcoming vacation setting, thus he has a very cheery demeanor and is always eager to politely assist citizens in any way he could to make their stay as enjoyable as possible while also keeping the peace. His people skills were left intact as it was believed that such traits would be needed for situations involving negotiations and winning over the trust of the public.
Also, for those of you who are curious or unfamiliar with Rick Griffin's Ani-droids setting, 'male' and 'female' models do not have genitalia and simply are gendered based on personality and body type (which also works as a model classification). There are certain upgrades called 'comfort options' for humans to interact with them, but to date, there's no technology available that allows the ani-droids to feel the experience. So, no, Gats has nothing down there but fluff and empty space. :p

Hey, and that's high praise coming from you! ^^ I loved it a lot when you featured it on your older character designs as well.
I was glad to see Rick Griffin utilizing it for his own Anidroids and absolutely adore it in classic sci-fi as well. I live for these leotard designs!

Hey thanks man, I had no idea you were a past fan! I haven't stopped appreciating and drawing those kinds of outfits, I just haven't been posting em as much lately. The rabbit villainess in my current comic project does wear a sporty leotard while training though, so I do have plans to insert a little fan-service to my original audience in there!
And yeah Rick Griffin's designs are awesome. He's supremely skilled with making appealing characters and cool cyberwear outfits like that.
