So, here it is. My first ever story. I would love to give a shoutout to
helixthefallen and
Sereigon for further inspiring me to complete this story and post it here. I don't have anyone to proofread it so I apologize if there are any spelling or grammatical mistakes. Hope you guys enjoy!
You are a 16-year-old sophomore in high school with scruffy black hair and a pretty lean build. You stand at about 5 ’3. You wake up on a crisp Saturday morning, seeing the sun shine through your window as it brightens up your room. As you lazily roll out of bed it suddenly hits you that summer has just started and you now have total freedom for the next few months. After eating breakfast and heading out into the back yard you decide to explore the woods behind your house. Given your newfound freedom, you spend the day wandering around the expanse of the forest occasionally letting curiosity get the best of you with a few cuts and bruises here and there. After a couple of hours of exploring you hear a noise coming from a bush a few feet away. At this point, your house is barely visible in the distance so you become quite cautious and are preparing to make a break for it, when suddenly an anaconda about 6 feet in length, slithers out of a nearby bush.
“ Hi there!” she says, with a feminine voice.
Not sure how to respond, you greet her back. “Hey… “. Noticing your hesitation she speaks up further.
“Don’t worry, I'm not gonna hurt you”
After breathing a sigh of relief you decide to trust her. “What's your name?” you ask. With a smile on her face, she happily introduces herself. “My name is Ollie!, what's yours”. You then introduce yourself as Rylie. “Nice to meet your Rylie!” You decide to ask what she is doing over here as anacondas tend to live about half a mile from where you are currently.
“I came to explore the woods and when I saw you walking around I decided to see what you were up to, and here we are!”. Satisfied with the answer you decide to ask her another question although you hesitate not wanting to offend her
“Why are you so small?” As the words leave your mouth you instantly regret it. For the first time, you see her smile disappear. “I'm not too sure, I guess I'm just a late bloomer”. “All my brothers and sisters are almost double my size and I'm sometimes made fun of for it”. You tell her that you can relate there as you are already in your second year of high school and you feel small compared to all the kids wondering when it's your turn. As you both sympathize with each other Ollie tries to get off the sour topic and asks if you want to explore the forest together. Seeing that it is only 2:00 pm you happily agree and invite her to rest on your neck as long as she doesn't squeeze too tight. Giggling she agrees and climbs aboard. The two of you walk through the dense foliage telling each other about your pasts.
“I have 4 siblings in total, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, I am the middle child of the family”. You then tell her how you are the oldest with 2 younger brothers both in middle school.
“That's so cool! must be nice being the oldest”. You then tell her how it isn't always the greatest “It may seem cool but I get tacked on for doing most of the chores around the house”. She understands how you feel, explaining how her oldest brother must do most of the hunting with their dad for the family. After a bit more walking you see a little clearing overlooking the town. You point out where your house is, noticing that you hiked a little closer to home than you thought. While you rest Ollie asks if you want to watch the sunset with her. Noticing it's almost 7:00 pm and not seeing a reason otherwise you agree which brings a joyful smile to her face again.
“You know Rylie, I'm glad I met you. This has been one of the best days I’ve had in a while”. Hearing these words you grin ear to ear telling her you feel the same way.
As the sun falls behind the town making way for the fluorescent moon to shine, you decide you should be heading home soon, as you need to be there before dinner or else your parents may worry.
“Aww, alright I should be getting home too.. Wanna do this again tomorrow?”. You tell her that nothing would make you happier.
Most of your summer follows suit to that night mostly being out in the forest or just relaxing on the clearing laughing and enjoying each other's company. Once the summer starts coming to a close you tell Ollie that you won't be able to see her as much.
“Ok, I understand but whenever you want to hang out again just wander through the forest and I'll be sure to find you”. Laughing you tell her will do. Once winter break hits you were a little bummed since Ollie went into hibernation. As a result, you will need to find other ways to occupy yourself, luckily you got a game console as an early Christmas gift and spent your days playing all sorts of games. Then just like that winter break came and went and it was back on the grind. As sophomore year came to a close you were excited to be able to see Ollie again as you were only able to see her a few times over the last few months. Then the worst news imaginable hits you before you head into the woods.
Your parents had explained that due to factors out of their control, they were going to sell the house and move a few miles away deep into the city. Feeling heartbroken that you would have to tell Ollie the news, you walk into the forest, a little gloomier than before. Heading to the clearing, you wonder if she would know you're there.
“Hey, Rylie! Great to see you again!”.
You greet her and tell her that you may not see her for a while.
“What do you mean?” she asks worriedly.
You then go into great detail on how you're moving away deep into the city and as a result, probably won't see her for a very long time.
“What?! Nooo, I'm gonna miss you”. You tell her that you feel the same way, and admittedly you were starting to like her as more than just a friend but didn't want to make this awkward so you suppressed those emotions as best as you could. After hanging out for what seemed to be the last time you spent the last few hours watching the sunset together. Just as you did on the day you guys met. You then say your goodbye and both pray that one day you could be reunited.
The rest of high school goes on like normal, Although you're still trying to adjust to the new school and people. You get decent grades and have a few good friends. Unfortunately, you never had any luck in the romance department so eventually you just game up. Once you graduated your parents wanted you to try studying abroad for your degree. You reluctantly agree as your mind still wanders to Ollie every once in a while.
You are now 25, standing at around 5 '8, after recently celebrating your birthday with your family you tell them that with your degree you have been making good money and are going to get a house close to your childhood home. They congratulate you and tell you that you are finally becoming a true man.
Once you have settled into your new home you overlook the forest that gave you so many good memories. Then you wonder if Ollie is even out here. After a decade of being away you’re not too sure. Feeling tired you decide to get some rest and explore the forest tomorrow to find out for sure.
You got up at the crack of dawn the following morning, thanking the gods it was Saturday, allowing you to have the whole day to relax and hopefully find Ollie. Thinking back on it you did notice that she seemed a little bigger than when you first met…
After having some early breakfast you check the time. 7:30am. As it was rolling into the summer months the days were getting longer but due to adulthood consuming your newfound freedom you unfortunately don’t have summer break to look forward to anymore. Shaking those thoughts from your mind you open the door to your backyard observing the ever expansive forest before you. It doesn’t take long for you to find the original path you took and as flashbacks start flooding your consciousness you start to worry just a little.
“What if she moved away in my absence?”
What if she doesn’t wanna see me again for not visiting all this time?”
You are quickly taken out of your worrisome trance as you hear the rustle of bushes behind you.
‘
“Hey Rylie!” Ollie says with that ever present smile.
You turned around to greet her and were glad that she stuck around after all this time. But as you do so you almost jump out of your skin with what stood before you. Ollie had grown that's for sure but what was in front of you was no ordinary anaconda. Ollie was now a staggering 35 foot long snake capable of wrapping around your body twice over and then some. When she stands up straight she caps at around 7 feet in height with plenty of her left over to greet whoever is meeting her.
She sees your shocked expression and decides to speak up a bit, “Rylie it's me Ollie!” After gathering your bearings you try and stammer out a response.
“H-Hey Ollie! You uhh, wow”
As you stubble further Ollie just giggles “hehe, i’ve grown haven't I?” She then proceeds to wrap around you pulling you into a tight hug. “Oh I missed you so much, how have you been!” With a slight blush you proceed to tell her what's been going on in your life over the past decade all while in the firm but gentle embrace of the giant anaconda. After finishing your story she reluctantly lets you out of her hug and lays next to you.
“That's so cool!, so you now have a job and live on your own near the woods?” You give a slight nod and all the while are still trying to process the being next to you. “Was she always this big? Did she know this would happen?” You were once again snapped out of your mind by Ollies soothing words. “Hey Rylie wanna go explore the woods some more? I learned about a lot of cool spots to check out around the area.” You nod in affirmation and follow her as she leads the way deeper into the forest.
As you are exploring the forest, Ollie shows you the sights she discovered in your absence. You saw a creek about a mile or so from your house which had some great looking rocks lying around along with the creek leading to a river. You followed the river down further making some stops on the way. “Here’s a mountain I’ve always wanted to climb but none of my brothers were up for it.” Taking a look to your right you saw a vast mountain side with what looked to be a lone tree at the top. You thought it could be fun to explore it with her some other day as it was already noon. As you continue down the path however it is becoming increasingly hard to focus as your suppressed emotions from the past begin to surface once again. Each glance at her towering form putting you just a little closer to confessing but not enough to actually want to.
She seems to take notice of your seemingly distant presence. “Hey, everything alright?” she says with a worried glance. Doing your best to hide your reddening face you quickly stammer out a response. “Yeah im fine dont worry”
Although the answer doesn’t satisfy her she didn't want to press any further as she didn’t feel it would be appropriate. “And we are here!” Looking up from where you were standing all those thoughts you previously had dissipated if only for a moment as you were standing at the waterfall's edge gazing upon the vastness of the surrounding area.
“It's… so beautiful” you mention to her. Glancing over to see her gazing upon the view with you.
“Yeah I found this waterfall ages ago but havent come back since”.
Peaking your interest you ask why. “Well I was waiting so I could show you!”
While trying to process what she just said you barely notice her wrap around you once again feeling her get herself comfortable before placing her large head on yours. “So Rylie, I noticed you’ve grown too right?” You told her you have but you stopped at around 5 foot 8. “Aww you're so cute at this height” catching you off guard you quickly try and hide a blush. However you couldn’t deny that looking up to her was one of the best new things about her. While standing up straight you only reach about up to where her chest would be. Leading you to crane your neck up a bit when standing directly in front of her.
“As you can tell I’ve grown quite a lot. I even outgrew my siblings and parents!”
“My dad is about 29 feet long so he was greatly surprised to see me look down on him even if just a little.”
“And my siblings have all been jealous as they stopped at around 27 to 28 feet.”
After some more talk about her immense growth spurt and a rough time trying to stay calm, silence fell upon the two of you, while you guys layed there you briefly caught a blush adorning Ollie's face before she tries to discreetly compose herself. Checking the time it was close to 6pm and you mentioned how you should be getting back as you had not had lunch and were pretty hungry.
“Oh. ok, well it was great hanging out and seeing you again!” You tell her you enjoyed yourself as well as she slowly lets you free. As you both start heading back to your house you leave to head inside and Ollie stops you to ask one more question.
“Hey Rylie uhh, you wanna climb that mountain tomorrow? Just the two of us?”
You give it some thought and decide that it would be a great way of ending off the weekend before the pressing work week comes around again. After saying your goodbyes you walk inside your house and finally let loose what your mind had been nagging at all day. You had a crush on Ollie..
After having some food which should have been more of an early dinner rather than a late lunch you decide to turn in early as you assumed that Ollie would want to start at sunrise to catch the full experience and be able to explore the whole place all day. As you sleep you dreamt about eventually confessing to her. “Umm Ollie I-I uhh I want to tell you something…” she looks at you with an attentive expression on her face. “I like you… like really like you Ollie. I think… I love you”. As she processes the information she wraps around you giving your nose a boop. “I really like you too Rylie.”
Hearing the blaring of your alarm clock you roll over in bed to check the time. The clock read 6:00am. “Darn… it was just a dream.” groggily getting up you pack your backpack from high school with a few bottles of water and some snacks for the road before setting out for the base of the mountain near the route you took the day before doing your best to dismiss last nights fantasy.
Once you reach the base of the mountain you see Ollie heading on over with the sun just barely peeking through the trees. “Hey Rylie, glad to see you had the same thoughts as me. Ready to do this!” you nod with excitement as you prepare for a day full of exploration.
As you hike the mountain you visit many sight seeing points along the way including one that overviews the waterfall from the previous day. While looking at the waterfall your mind starts to wander again thinking about the blush you saw on her face the day before. Surely she couldn’t be into you right? No, that would be ridiculous. Continuing the hike you stumble upon a view of the city you had lived in far off in the distance. Remembering all you had accomplished over there from learning to adapt to a new school to making some good friends. With the ultimate accomplishment being your degree getting you to where you are now.
“What are you thinking about?” She asks with a intrigued look on her face.
“Oh just what I did over there and how it has all led me back to my roots and hanging out with you.” The smile she kept grew wider as she thanked you for the kind words and watched as you drank some water and ate a few snacks. “Alright wanna continue the hike we are almost there!” Packing up the trash so as to not litter you nod your head in affirmation. The rest of the hike was relatively calming with a few more sights to be seen and more memories flooding into your head. Although the ever present thought in the back of your mind got stronger as time went on.
Checking the time on your phone the clock read 5:30pm. As if by coincidence you had just reached the summit of the mountain spying the lonesome tree that caught your eye the day before. The two of you find a nice place to rest after a long day of hiking “wanna watch the sunset together she asks hopingly.” You say it was a great idea as you both sit in silence with the warm orange glow of the sun starting to disappear across the horizon. Wondering if you would ever get a chance like this again you have an internal debate on whether you should confess or not. After a five minute long argument you decide that you should do it. What’s the worst that could happen?
“Hey Ollie,” she looks over with curiosity. “I uhh want to tell you something uhh how do I say this” her eyes seemingly anticipating a continuation as if she is expecting what's to come next. “Umm, I'm just gonna say it. I like you. No, I think… I… love you Ollie” Her expression went from one of curiosity to one of pure joy and hopefulness.
“Rylie… I have felt the same way even before you came back but thought it was weird and never wanted to scare you away.” As you understood what she said she scooted closer to you, her looming form bringing a sense of comfort as she wrapped herself around you. “Rylie, would it be possible to consider ourselves a couple?” You look up at her. Her eyes gleaming with more hope than everbefore “Of course Ollie I would love that” At hearing those words she comes really close to your face giving you a snuggle with her snout and lightly kissing your cheek. Blushing you wrap your arms around her neck pulling her in for a hug all the while the sun slowly descended in the background. She proceeds to whisper in your ear, “I have dreamt about this for so long” she said. As you both lay there you overlook the setting sun both wondering how your lives have come to this moment and led to the connection you two have shared ever since you met. Once the sun finally set she suggested one more proposition.
“Do you wanna sleep here tonight? Your body heat can be trapped by me being around you keeping us both warm through the night and I promise to protect you from now on.” Not needing any further you decide to snuggle even more into her embrace giving you all the confirmation she needed. As you both lay there enjoying each other's presence you thank her for everything she has done for you and hope this new beginning leads to some great memories. With that said the lonely tree at the top has now become a symbol of love and your ever tightening friendship.
