I knew it was a problem - just not how much of a problem!

The rafter behind that extra support post is rotted all the way through - I am very glad I never tried to walk over those areas! (stayed towards the edges and where it met the metal roof of the house.)

well if it was a few years ago. rough cut lumber would be a good way to save a few bucks.

Paint NO STEP on it I wonder I salvaged lumber would work.

Picked up the plywood for it, some of the beams 'look' okay, but at least six of them are 'scrap' at this point. Gonna play some 'games' on getting to house roof to play nice with it ...

At least you had the blessing of finding out while out looking up, instead of while falling down. There is still a hole in the ceiling of my family's house where my dad's leg went through it due to a misstep in the attic quite some time ago.

Ha, younger brother did that in a hallway!

Easy fix. Square up the hole, add trim and it becomes a new/extra attic access port!

Considering it shades a sliding glass door from the morning sun, yes.

A/C bill went way down after adding it and a bit more so after adding that metal roof over the rest of the house.

Funny enough, it's also the best place I have to add a bit more solar. Better angle for the summer months and being in the 'valley' doesn't matter all that much with those tall trees east and west of me (that I can't trim ...)

I could just throw the solar on it - but I didn't want to then have it surprise me one storm by falling apart ...
