Here is a spatula I forged. The handle is made from a piece of steel that was 1" wide x 5" long and 3/8" thick.
The blade of the spatula was cut from sheet steel. The two pieces are flush riveted together. The stem of the spatula where the holes were drilled had been slightly reamed to accept the head of a rather large sized finish nail.
3 nails were used and they are barely visible.
I can't wait to use this thing.
