Okay, here goes. This is a short story I'm working on. I've had the idea in my head for ages. I'm taking a Writer's Craft course, and we were asked to write a short story, any topic. At least 2000 words. I took it as the chance to take a stab at the story.
2613 words, I believe. 4 1/2 pages in 12pt Times New Roman Font.
It's my first real attempt at writing a story, so I hope it's not too bad. I'm looking for a little feedback, so I can do some editing before the story is due. It's why I posted it.
Summary: Miko's day is out to a bad start, what with his boyfriend rudely awakening him and a strange scent hiding in the background. Evan continues to agonize the poor otter, much to his dismay. Can anything else go wrong.
The story really cuts off before things get really good, and this is likely where I'll cut it off for the piece I submit to my teacher, but I'm almost certain it will be continued.
Oh, and please note: I am NOT a wine specialist. I don't drink it, or any alcohol to be precise. I spent about an hour doing research, searching what wines are best for what meals, how to store, etc. If I've made a mistake on those facts, I'm not changing it. Rule of plot.
For those not willing to do research into where it takes place by looking up names: Manitoulin Island, largest freshwater island in the world. Resides in Lake Huron, Ontario. M'Chigeeng is a hiking trail, as well as the name of some of the Native Americans on the island. South Baymouth is the town where the ferry that goes to the island lands, on the south side. And while not stated in the story (yet) they live on Otter Lake, a small lake somewhere midway on the island.
Seriously though, it's a beautiful island, go visit it sometime. Good fishing, lots of hiking trails and lakes on the island, great swimming spots, and in the summer, lots of awesome powwows to go see.
All characters copyright me.
